    Hi,

I found you today from the DMP & Mutual support thread. I've not read much yet, but I really do feel for you. I live in Oldham, so can offer local support/ear to bend, if you need it.

Wow, the support and encouragement on this forum is incredible, I do believe I am lifting my head out the sand.... slowly but surely. I'll have a think about PPI claims this weekend also.

He certainly does, but that's why I thought it would help him to hear that other people have been able to overcome it. If they can do it, so can he. I truly believe that everyone is capable of that, if they are given the right tools - in this case the necessary advice and information - and support.

Come on RG, you can do this! We're all behind you 100%!

Oh, I seemed to have skipped a few of your posts, my mistake.

I'm also sorry to hear about your work situation, that is horrible :(

Hope things work out for you both.

Oh yeah, if you're coming to the UK, don't come to Rochdale to live! :p

To be clear, I am not (and I don't think anyone else is either) saying that RG has no right to feel the way he does. The way he feels is understandable, and I've been there, but he also needs to get pro-active and make some changes in order to get out of this situation.

My work tried to push me out, rather than pay redundancy, and I had to fight back in order to keep my job. That was soul destroying too. It still is. Whilst they have backed down and admitted that they were wrong (at least on one level), I still have to deal with the constant sniping and insuations that I can't do my job properly. I have to stand my ground each and every day, all whilst one of my managers has gone off sick long term, and the other is only supposed to be in the office 3 days but barely manages that, and I'm left to play manager to the team AGAIN - when she's here, she's spends 90% of her time trying to criticise me. I stood at the top of my stairs and cried for half an hour on Monday morning, before I was able to get myself off to work. So I KNOW, I get it, but I still need the money and until OH's job situation is sorted too (we're possibly relocating to the UK) it's all become a bit of 'another day, another euro' type situation.

RG - you have my every sympathy - limbo is a horrid place to be - but you have the option of being pro-active and searching for another job now, regardless of whether they make you redundant. You don't need to wait on them, you can take action yourself and improve things too.

Another missed post, I bet this is really hard for people to follow now :(

heartbreak_star - you are not a meanie at all. Everyone's heart is in the right place, I just don't like getting the kick up the backside I know I need!

Re: not telling CCCS, I didn't lie, i just never told them. I stupidly thought I could manage. What a joke eh? Look where that got me, £26k in debt "thinking I could manage".

I will consider all your suggestions too, I promise.

Thank you, and to everyone else.

You don't get hooked on antidepressants! Not physically! RG, I'm getting exasperated now. I believe you are depressed - as anyone would be in your situation. We are trying to help you find ways to deal with the situation - DEAL WITH, not insta-cure. Antidepressants and counselling etc will help you CALM DOWN and BE RATIONAL, which is what you're not being at the moment. (Neither am I, but that's because I'm irritated. I'd be the world's worst counsellor!!)

Personally I want to give you a shake, tell you to listen to everyone on here, and then give you a big hug because it's an awful situation to be in.

As Martin said, no money problem cannot be solved.

I think you did the wrong thing in essentially lying to CCCS about your actual financial situation, because it's putting you in a worse situation and should be considering bankruptcy. It can be a fresh start. Either that, or ask CCCS to make token payments to your creditors until you are working again. This is NOT unsolvable, and you'll have more to live on if you fess up to them.

I also wonder if you could consider a bike or moped for your escapes to peace and solitude? I too was a late learner (passed same year you did! :j) and when I didn't have a car for a while I felt lost! But the feeling does wear off, I learnt where I could escape to with buses, and I got another car when I knew I could afford it.

Look through some of the Debt Free Diaries for people who have owed as much as you and been through similar bad situations.

I do wish you well, no matter how much of a meanie I seem.

    HBS x

My brother has one of those silly Smart cars - a 2 seater. It only cost £35 per year for car tax.

A cheaper car would also be cheaper to insure - 3rd party only.

You shouldn't be paying building insurance - plus how good are your possessions that you've got them insured. A lot of people don't bother.

Stuff whether you're allowed to rent a room to a lodger - he/she becomes a friend you are helping out. The council don't mind that.

Can you type? There are data processing companies out there that pay peanuts to anyone who can type - not much money, but a decent extra job.

You have a driving licence - how about Tesco, Sainsbury's etc, they're always after delivery drivers.

    Thanks ailz95.

I don't pay buildings insurance, just contents insurance. That is just the way CCCS "lump" things together.

In fact their Debt Remedy bares little resemblance to any SOA you complete.

You definitely can't take in a lodger in a rented Council flat, it's against the tenancy agreement.

Yup, would 2nd that and you can end up in a bit of bother if they find out!

BUT have a look at the housing section on their website - ours offer people money to downsize ........ it's around £3k (which I personally think is a bit excessive) so know a few people who've done it. Worth a look to see if there are any one-beds that are OK.

Well, the Council's housing stock was recently fully managed by Rochdale Boroughwide Housing on their behalf, but it is fully maintained by RBH now as it has just become a "mutual" after the tenants voted in favour of it.

Can't see them offering people money to downsize, can't they just try and force you out into a smaller property?

I was originally in one bed flat but kept having to complain about noise, drug smells and constant leaks and flooding from the 3 bed flats above and they let me move into an upstairs 3 bed flat, but before anyone moans, I do pay full rent for it.

    Thanks rising from the ashes

So is this effectively a Housing Association now? Our Housing Association have written to all the tenants asking them how they are going to manage the changes to housing benefit payments in under occupied houses. Taking in a lodger was one of the questions they asked. I know this doesn't affect you as you don't claim benefits and pay full rent, but our Housing Association will let you take in a lodger as long as you get permission first. Is it worth asking them?
