If you did then you still may be entitled to the money back if it was a case of mis-selling, although I don't know how you would go about it. You could read up on the MSE info about reclaiming, see if that helps.

    Thank you.

Oh great, just opened my latest pay slip from Rochdale Council and they have deducted money under their enforcement* of making every employee take 6 days unpaid leave before 31st March 2013 as part of their millions to be saved in cost cutting :(

That's even less money for me now, I can't do this any more. My rent already went up and I didn't tell CCCS, now this happens. I now have even less money each month, and that's before I lose my job...

    * You are being forced to take 4 days between Xmas Day and the New Year off, unpaid - plus 2 other days "of your choice".

Well, I'm being made redundant before then so how can they take money off me?

I don't understand how they can take it off now? Can you query it or ask the union? At the very least you not working a full holiday year they should be pre-rata'd. I don't understand that at all, why not just cut your holiday entitlement rather than forcing un paid leave?

PPI, if you don't know whether or not you had it then you would pt a subject access request in I would think, however these cost.

My mum just sent off the template letters to anyone she ever had a loan from, well bank wise, as she wasn't sure who she took PPI with, and they wrote back saying, I'm not sure we owe you and she wrote again saying yes you do, one coughed up this week, a few thousand and I think the loan was from the early 90s!
  • RG, you really need to talk to CCCS again - the idea is not that they take all your money, rather that they sort enough for you to live on easily and use the rest for your debts - you seem to be letting them take too much at the moment and they need to know about your rent increase too!

Lexxi's advice is good - seek advice on this crazy unpaid holiday malarkey!

  • Hi Rochdale_Guy,

I found this thread today and am so far up to page 22 (only reading the OP's posts and a couple of others here and there.)

If you get chance it really is worth a read. It's a 27 year old girl from Bolton who was £20k in debt (not including mortgage) and started her own business with a view to becoming a millionaire by the time she's 40.

I'm only up to page 22 of 33 but there's a lot of good stuff in there that I think could give you a different outlook on your situation and what is possible.

    My Story:

Four years ago I was £15k in high interest credit card debt, really struggling to make payments and then I lost my job. All my friends owned houses and went out partying while I stayed at home trying to work out how to pay my minimum payment on one credit card with the last of my credit limit on another.

I looked for jobs, had some interviews and the best offer I got was £18k a year selling houses for a shared ownership scheme in Manchester called Plumlife. On that it would take me YEARS to make even a dent in my debt.

I decided I'd had enough, didn't want to earn £18k selling crappy shared-ownership housing and started my own business with £500 in an area I had ZERO experience in.

I learnt everything I needed to know from the internet. I literally had a PC, Internet and Phone. No skills in the area, no experience, no connections and only £500

It was hard going, a very steep learning curve, long hours and I made more than a few mistakes along the way, but now, four years later I have paid off ALL my debt (£15k + £5k student loan), bought a new (to me) car and motorbike (£6k), been to Australia for a month (£4k), to the Caribbean for a fortnight (£3k) and am just putting the finishing touches to a deposit for a house (£22k). (And thanks to my business I can work anywhere in the Country - bye bye Rochdale)

I thought just clearing my debt would take me 10 years and when you're looking so far into the distance it seems pointless doing anything as even then it will take so long. But I did something, got my head down and over 4 years COMPLETELY turned my life around and got into a position that had previously seemed decades away in the distant, distant future.

I don't write this to say 'look at me', but to try and show you that people have been in a similar situation, done something about it and made a difference. I COMPLETELY agree that a debt-free date of 2030 is ridiculous and depressing, but only if you believe it and think that that is all that's possible.

I hate to think what my predicted DFD would have been if I worked it out and admit if I had worked it out it probably would have put me off doing anything about it as it would have seemed insurmountable. But it wasn't, it only took four years and everything has changed.

I wouldn't even know where to begin starting a PPI claim, or even if any of them had PPI on. I've had the MBNA card the longest, they're the ones who gave me an £11,000 credit limit on. But I know it's my fault for building up these debts :(

Stupid me probably thought I was doing the right thing when I took all these cards on and declined any PPI thinking I'm not paying them back any extra each month.... if only I had of done.

How do you suggest I look into this.... please?

    Thank you.

It's well worth looking into RG. My OH reclaimed his. Took a while for them to complete the process, but he ended up receiving a cheque from them about....3 months ago now, for just over 11k!

Well, I don't have anything showing as separate payments on any of my statements, what about if I once took it out and then cancelled it? Guess it doesn't count?

Not that I have statements from years ago.... :(

As you are not sure, you would be better off first doing a SAR (Subject Access Request). This is where you basically ask for all information that they hold on you, in accordance with the Data Protection Act. I think though, that you do have to pay 10 quid for this. There are template letters on the forum somewhere for this too.

Alternatively, if you have the original agreement still, it should show it in the breakdown there. ie loan amount xxxx, PPi amount xxxx, interest rate X%, repayment term X years, total repayable xxxxx (that sort of thing).

Once you have this info, then you can set about using the template letters to reclaim the PPI.

It doesn't matter if you had it for 1 month or 10 years. If it was mis-sold, and you paid the premiums, then you're entitled to a refund (however big or small).

I also reclaimed some of mine, but I didn't have much to reclaim in the first place. I think I got back close to 500 quid though.

I STILL need to follow up with Sainsbury's! lol

Have you taken any of these days yet? If not, ask them to explain why on earth they are taking the money this month. That is not standard payroll practice!

That's even less money for me now, I can't do this any more. My rent already went up and I didn't tell CCCS, now this happens. I now have even less money each month, and that's before I lose my job...

Again, as above, query it with your payroll department. Escalate it if necessary.

Contact the CCCS today and tell them that your situation has changed because your rent has increased. They need to know, and they can only help you properly if they have the full picture. The idea is also, to ensure that you have enough money to live on still. If they are taking too much, then you won't have that!

Start looking for a new job now, if you aren't already. Get yourself registered with agencies online, and the local ones, sign up to LinkedIn etc. Ask your friends, ask your family, everyone to put the word out that you are looking for work and if they know of any positions available.

Will you be receiving any redundancy pay?

And lastly....don't panic! Worst comes to the worst, you just start making token payments of 1 quid to each of your creditors. They can hate it, they can chase you, but they can do very little else other than that (assuming all this is unsecured debt, which I think it is). They, quite simply, cannot take money you haven't got.

I am speechless - this is appalling! And yes how can they take the money off you now when you are going to be made redundant before the date? I would definitely query this with your employer.

    Thank you.

I am not in the Union, but my other 2 co-workers are. One is on holiday, I won't see the other one until Monday now.

I wouldn't take anything the Union says as gospel, they said we'd only be entitled to 30 days notice, not the 10 weeks (as in my particular case). Not encouraging is it? :(

So, I contact CCCS and say hello, I am on a DMP with you, I owe £26k, with a debt free date of 2030. My rent went up in April and I am £29 a month worse off which I never told you about, and oh, by the way, I am being made redundant and won't have any money soon? Excuse the sarcasm, I just think telling them that will start alarm bells ringing and creditors will be rubbing their hands together in glee. I wasn't aware a creditor could apply to make you bankrupt :(

    :(
