    Debt-free and Proud!
Thank you everyone, I appreciate all the posts but I can't do this anymore, really. It's way too much to contemplate...

I need a lucky break, but it's not gonna happen :(

I am facing redundancy too and not cheered by my prospects either, however living on job seekers allowance of approx £67 per week is not an option I am happy to settle for. Certainly wouldn't be able to keep my car or house (I rent too) on benefits.

So I am going all out to find another job. It is sink or swim Rochdale Guy and I know which one I am going for.

If you are sinking you should take the advice of the other posters and see your GP. If you are slipping into depression then no amount of tough love and 'pull your socks up' is going to work. You need professional help.

Hello everyone, thank you for the replies, I do appreciate them all, and don't want people falling out over as to what I should do, I know you are ALL trying to help, so thank you.

I have been looking on NHS Jobs, Your Council Jobs, Total Jobs and Monster Jobs. I've even looked at Total Monster Jobs - now I know where they got my boss from :)

    [Sorry!]

There are Admin jobs going full-time for only £12,000pa, can you believe that? :(

I get your point about seeking medical help, but suddenly being on pills isn't gonna make me throw the curtains back on a sunny day and find Mr.Bluebird on my shoulder now (plus there aren't that many sunny days in the UK anyway).....

    Thanks though again.

    Hi RG :hello:

Please forgive me for saying this but you come across as a tad melodramatic and continuously changing your picture and making trite statements for your location doesn't help you. It's a bit like a Facebook status rather than a I need real help on a debt forum.

Point taken, no more melodramatic avatars and trite statements for my location.
It appears you have 3 or 4 main issues:

    1) Your debt level and the length of time it will take you to become debt free. Much as I often sing their praises, I despair of CCCS for making you think that a DFD of 30 years is acceptable. You need light at the end of a tunnel and 30 years is too long for anyone's tunnel. My firm belief is that you should go for bankruptcy or, if you really cannot bear to part with your car, an IVA.
Like I said, the first option was bankruptcy, the second was a DMP. I went for the DMP thinking my cirumstances may change after 12 months, they are.... but for the worse. And yes, 2030 is crazy. I can't do an IVA as they are fixed for like 5 years and I'm about to lose my job so couldn't go that route.
    2) Your job situation. When will you know the definite decision on redundancy? I understand that you are entitled to your redundancy pay and want it and I think I too would hold out for it. But in the meantime, you need to be getting other jobs lined up or at least, get yourself in the market by posting your CV on job sites, setting up a Linked In profile, generally being seen. What do you do now? What could you transfer your skills to? Would you like to change job? What about training?
Meeting on Friday 17th August to finalise (i.e. dig our plots more like), then letter expected Monday 20th August with notice period etc.
I am so looking forward to that day..... not :(
I will consider your other options.
    3) Your car. You don't want to part with it, you can't afford to keep it. You need to make a decision and if you must have a car for escape, you may be far better changing it for something cheaper and using the difference in price to pay something off your debts.
If I sell it for £2,000 then buy another for £1,000, yes, the £1,000 could go to bankruptcy fees, but the newer older car would still pretty much cost the same to insure, tax, run, service etc etc. I can't find anywhere where it says you CAN keep a car with a value of £1,000. Anyone like to prove me wrong here?
    4) Your housing. Don't wait for the axe to fall, start working on it now. Look for transfers, research different parts of the town or even a totally different town. I work in central Manchester and we employ staff from Rochdale, Bolton, Oldham, Blackburn, Burnley, Liverpool, Preston, Glossop etc. Don't restrict yourself to one location for housing or jobs. Open your area and open more opportunities.
Thanks. I won't be out of work come 1st April so won't be penalised for under occupancy re: housing benefit. It would have to be a decent salary over what I am on now to be able to afford to commute and park everyday. And I really don't want to move....
Please don't hate me for this post, I want to help you, we all want to help you but YOU need to want to help yourself first.

I don't! Thank you for your opinion and input.

    Hi RG.

I live and work in Rochdale too, and know how dire life is and can be in this area, regardless of all the changes taking place to bring money into it. Many of my friends are out of work and I send them this link.

Its QVC looking for staff. Fingers crossed that life, sooner or later sorts it's self out.

Aha, another suffering Rochdale resident :(

I appreciate the job link - but going to Liverpool is a bit far for me, cheers though.

Being on pills won't make you Tigger...but it will help you get back on an even keel. Also, it might not even be pills - counselling and CBT are also options.

good luck, and have a *hug*!

    I'm a Rochdale resident.

What I like about Rochdale is how close it is to other places.

Manchester, Oldham, Heywood, Bury, Bolton and Rawtenstall are all within easily commutable distances and all pay much better wages than Rochdale.

Earning only an extra £1k a year will usually cover the majority of commuting costs and with the tram coming into the centre it will soon be even cheaper, not to mention quicker to commute.

None of my friends are unemployed, but they're not all dependent on Rochdale Town Centre for work.

    How are you feeling?

If you are suffering from depression then pills and/or counselling won't make everything in the world rosy but they may be what you need to find some perspective and make you feel more capable of dealing with your current problems (I am NOT a professional or expert - do NOT take my word for anything on this, speak to your doctor).

From this side of my keyboard I don't know you at all, it could be that you're actually a very positive person and are just using this forum to vent a bit (go ahead, everyone needs to vent every now and again). But it comes across as if you are "drowning" a bit and I'm worried about how you're coping.

Please do speak to your doctor.
