Unsalted Butter

Can anybody help? I've got a cake recipe that has unsalted butter in it. Will it make any difference if I use salted butter?

  • It may make a slight difference to the taste of the cake, but I don't think it would spoil it. I often use salted butter and no-one has ever commented.

I prefer salted butter in baking. Adds more flavour but then I omit the salt called for in the recipe.

  • I think salted butter is much nicer in baking. The salt was traditionally used to preserve the butter. I found Nigella Lawson's recipes annoying because she continually called for unsalted butter and then added salt to the recipe anyway.
  • I like my sweet things slightly salty - oops there go the arteries :)

I prefer slightly salted butter (not more than 1,2%). It is good either for baking or to spread on a toast.
  • I use only unsalted butter (President), but simply add salt whenever I want it. I find it easier to add, than to try and take it away :)

Well, I think that President has some added milk cultures wich give your baking goods wonderful smell and taste :) But sometimes it is just too expensive...

Unsalted is much dearer as you can't get it in the cheapy ranges, so I always use salted and my cakes are legendary amongst friends and family!
Oh dear, here we go again.
