Thanks again to everyone who replied. I can now report following my first epilation that it's not that bad! I did need some dutch courage after my medieval looking instrument of torture turned up at lunchtime, but actually I already wish I'd got one many moons ago. I do look like I've had a localised episode of measles, but I don't plan to wear skirts any time soon.

Gefjun, the measles look will fade and your skin will get used to it :D

I love my epilator but just can't seem to get on with it

I always get LOADS of ingrowing hairs no matter how well I exfoliate and moistorise!! It's such a shame as it works so well but it got so bad that I would wake up in the night and realise I'd scratched my legs raw while I was asleep!! This meant I could never wear my legs bare :(

Also it started going flat within 2-3 minutes but not while it was on shave/trim... just epliate!! Now I just use the shaver part, although I might have another go with it.
Even if you stumble, you're still moving forward.
  • I got one a few years back - I ended up with the measles look for a few days, really smooth legs for a couple of days and then the hair started growing back. Wasn't worth it for me so went back to shaving.
  • I used to wax (underarms and bikini) myself but lost my mojo a year or so ago and couldn't pull the strip off :o so I bought an epilator and it's great.

However, like Melonade above, I can't do my legs as I just get horrid ingrown hairs everywhere :(
  • Well the legs were fine, hurt a bit but not too bad.

Armpits - OMG! Agony - only got a small part done, it hurt so bad and was bleeeding.

also got ambitious and as mine is one for 'face' as well tried it on a couple of places where I've been getting a bit hairer. Oh dear. Have been red and sore and weirdly horribly bumpy for 3 days now.

So legs, ok, everywhere else , not.

Keep trying! :D Mine bled the first time I had them waxed but only that one time. Since then no blood whether wax or epilator.
  • Love mine!! I always had my legs waxed regularly with a bit of shaving time inbetween visits and have to say I adore my epilator. Braun are the way forward. i went for the pink one as it does legs and bikini and so costs less than the blue one which does face and underarms also (which i couldnt do tbh). Easy enough to use on the sofa or the bed while watching TV :)
  • Decided today I would like one and considering this one or one at boots that is out of stock just now

I use it probably every 3 or 4 weeks now but as others have said, you will need to use it more often to start with.
I haven't been brave enough to do my underarms yet but I use mine on my legs, bikini line, and facial hair when necessary.

You do need to exfoliate well to avoid ingrown hairs, I dry body brush before a shower and it seems to work very well.

    Good luck :)
