Ccj

I received a CCJ on my HSBC student account around 4 years ago, due to being a student and living away from home I ignored the repayments and it isnt until now that I finally paid it off.
I arranged to pay a settlement fee at the beginning of Jan and I have now received a letter from the debt company that this has been paid and settled. I now just wanted some advice on where to go next, do I need to contact the court regarding the CCJ? Can I do anything to remove it from my credit file, or ensure that is is now satisfactory?

My partner and I are looking at getting a mortatage towards the end of this year/beginning of next will this have a massive effect? and stop us from securing one?

Any advice would be great

thanks:j

You can't remove it from your file, but you can get it it marked as satisfied until it comes off naturally 6 years after the initial judgement date.

Talk to the court and they will tell you how to go about getting that done.

  • Thanks for your reply.

Will this stand against me until it is cleared with regards to getting a mortatage etc?

I think it was issued in 2009 so only another 3 years to go!!

    Many thanks:j

    Hello there,

You judgment is very likely to have a large impact on your ability to seek a mortgage - even if it is paid off. You may wish to seek a 'certificate of satisfaction' from the court as concrete proof that the debt is clear, you can then show it to any potential mortgage lender.

It could be worth obtaining a copy of your credit reference file to see how things are looking. There is a comprehensive fact sheet covering the topic on our website - and also lots of great information on this very one also!
