Need Dental Implants needed - suggestions

I need two dental implants to replace one broken and one missing rear molar. Local quotes are between 2200 and 2400 each. I can't afford it. They are not available on the NHS. Any suggestions?

    Denture? Don't have anything?

What has the dentist suggested as the alternative?

Implants have only been around for 15-20 yrs, and only become more mainstream in the last 5-10. People managed reasonably well before they were invented.

If you can't afford them, you can't afford them. You need option 'B'.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

My dentist said it would cost around £2000 per tooth. I googled it and it can be less or a whole lot more! But there is such a thing as 'dental tourism'. And yes I know all about the caveats and risks but in recent years it has become much more common and acceptable to go abroad for private medical procedures. I was wondering if anyone had done this? It's a lot cheaper OP!

Dentist did not suggest alternatives. How did people manage with missing back molars before implants came along? (Gaps are on different sides in upper jaw).

I've never heard of implants. I had a back tooth go bad..... now I have a gap.

Would a cap not be just as good/cheaper for you?
  • I believe I have heard that there are some very professional clinics in Poland offering treatment and accommodation packages which handily undercut the going rates here:

Why not just have the broken one done.

Why does the back molar have to be replaced, I have two missing at the bottom and you just adapt to it.
Its not as if you can see a gap at the back where you smile.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I'm sure there are many many people with gaps at the back who can't afford implants or want the bother of a denture/bridge. You just get used to it and carry on as normal..

We manage extremely well not having molars.

Food is rarely so tough you need teeth of steel to chew it. Your remaining teeth will suffice. Ask if the broken tooth is a candidate for being crowned Gold is hard wearing and as its the back of your mouth won't be noticed

A modern concept Is the shortened dental arch ie you only need twenty teeth in total for dental health. That means no molar teeth at all just premolars forward. (first ten teeth top and lower).

You can choose to have implants to close the gap but you are better saving up to have it done locally as a "considered" purchase rather than viewing them as an urgent necessity and looking for the cheapest way of replacing these teeth. The Internet is full of horror stories from people who didn't realise the complexities of implant placement and the longterm care and maintainance they need.
