Ideas for Granny's 95th birthday hamper?

It's my Granny's 95th Birthday next month, I think the world of her but I won't be able to go and see her as she lives 200 miles away and I'm not well enough to go out.
I'd like to make her up a big basket / box of goodies for her birthday but can't think what to include.
So far, on the list of things to get I have posh biscuits, miniature brandys and a pack of pretty hankeys.
If I can buy things online it's a bonus but my Dad's only too happy to go shopping for me.
Many thanks for any ideas you come up with!

A nice family photo in a frame?

Does she read or like audio books? Is she at home or in a care home? How about nice soap, talc & hand cream? Gloves & scarf? Socks or tights? A magazine?

    Thanks for the suggestions.
A family photo in a frame is a very good idea, smellies too.
Granny lives on her own and is very independant.
She reads a magazine but that's about it I think.
Thanks again for the ideas, can anyone else suggest anything?
  • How about a pretty box which has inside pieces of paper on which you have written memories on.For example " I remember when you took me ........." "Do you remember when .........." "we laughed so much when........"Fill in the gaps with your own experiences. The idea is to recall happy/funny/enjoyable times that she was involved with, and which you appreciated.
I hope I have described it clearly enough.

    That's a great idea Lavender13. Thanks :)
  • What about food products that have been around for 100 years so she would have had as a child, for instance is cadburys dairy milk is 100 years old or 95+ anyway, that could be included?
Is there a coountry she went to and loved, for eg France/Spain, you could make her a french/spanish basket?

You could make a video montage from a company called One True Media, if you can scan some family pictures into your computer, I think they make lovely keepsakes, heres a link to the one I did from my family holiday last year (just incase you want to get the gist of it!) http://www.onetruemedia.com/otm_site/auth_preview?work_id=1021549 (I hope the link works!)

You could also make a 'On The Day you Were Born' certificate for her. I found a programme on the net yesterday that lets you use their software for a free trial for a week-not sure if you like the idea of downloading their software to your computer though?? I used it and its been fine for me..the only trouble is when i printed it off it came out with TRIAL VERSION plastered across it! Which is a pain but at least I have all of the info I need and I'm sure I can knock something up myself now I have all of the info. I'll see if I can find the link for you so you can have a look.

  • If she has a tape recorder, how about a tape of you recording nice messages or poems or bits from any favourite books she might have? If she doesn't, how about making up a spiral bound (or similar) book of poems or lyrics to songs she really likes? Or a photo montage - when a friend and I stopped living in the same country she put together a lovely board for me cut out of various photos from times we'd shared. It's a slightly different version of Lavender's lovely idea.

  • can you track down a perfume she may have worn as a young girl lots of companys are doing retro lines now.
also how about a pair of really luxurious slippers sheepskin perhaps? they tend to be quite cheap at this time of year.
how about organising for a local mobile hairdresser to visit for a shampoo (if you phone them and prepay you could include little vouchers in there.)
