Brogden's DIY DMP

Hi All,

I have spent many months this year deliberating:-

- DMP or no DMP?
- If I do a DMP, is it with CCCS or DIY?

Well I don't think I have any choice but to do a DMP and I have finally decided this is a DIY DMP. I know CCCS and Payplan are fantastic but DIY is how I am doing it. The reason I reached this decision was realisation of the fact that CCCS and PP would not assist if you were being taken to court. If that is the case I might aswell weather it alone.

In the summer I spoke to a fee paying DMP firm called Ashley Park. I probed them with questions (must have got right fed up of me.) I mentioned to the lady the idea of going alone with this and she confirmed that I could.........'if I was strong enough!' To be honest I think that I am. If I wasn't then their fees which were only advised at the end of the conversation would finish it anyway!

For some reason I have worried a lot about Blair Oliver and Scott. I suppose that is due to having three different accounts with the old HBOS (now part of Lloyds) and reading so much stuff about them. Well I rang Blair, Oliver & Scott today after being advised by Albion Collections (HBoS's first DCA who try to rescue delinquent accounts) that the case had been passed over and had a repayment plan agreed in a few minutes with a lovely Scottish lady. For a momentI forgot I was married and was about to propose.

This was a major relief!!!!! Albion were trying to get me to pay £380 per month to this personal loan (payment plus arrears.) It has been on my mind all through Christmas. I was certain that a personal loan was much more difficult to deal with than a credit card when you are on a DMP. However, because the account has been transferred to BO & S, the loan structure is finished with. Its not capital and interest anymore, its just a big bad liability for me but I can pay it in instalments that fit my I & E. This is my only personal loan, the rest of my debt is almost all credit cards. I had a big hang up about this loan and thought the end was nigh!

I am absolutely exhausted at the moment and I have other creditors to ring. Whilst the BO & S experience was good, I have to reflect on how long it will take to pay this lot off. I must make extra payments along the way.

At least with a DIY DMP I can make extra payments to whoever to suit myself. That would not be possible with an agency doing it for me.

Thanks to everyone who has given help and support.
Brogden.

    Hi

Well done for taking the leap. You mention you are calling creditors? are you following this up with letters to them as well? I would suggest that you do.

There are people doing DIY on the mutual supprt thread - and an older thread for people doing DIY, which might be useful if you have queries or if other creditos are not so helpful

    Well done Brogden.

I wish I was as brave as you, I'm far too much of a wimp to speak to anyone. I'm very interested in your dealings with Blair, Oliver & Scott as I've received several letters from them, just looking at their letter headed stationary scares the life out of me! All I can manage to do is pass them onto my DMP company, pathetic I know!!

I'm still wallowing in the safety of my managed DMP right now but perhaps one day when I'm feeling a little braver I will be able to follow your footsteps.

    Hi Brogen,
I have my own Dmp and on the whole it's worked for me.
Problems I have faced, the debt gets sold on to DCA,s
And you start again.Still have collection activity though much reduced.
As you say, a managed DMP by payplan etc does not help when you experience court.
This is often done if your are a Home owner to obtain a Charging Order to intimidate you to pay more.
Only one creditor tried to obtain a CCJ out of . I defended this with help from the CAG website and succeeded.
Advantages and disadvantages, a personell choice. I felt more in control.
    Best of luck
