Facebook for selling my unwanted stuff?

Hi, I have been having a post-Christmas clear out of my kids toy cupboards, with the aim of actually being able to fit into them all the new stuff that they received...and started thinking about how to dispose of the stuff they have grown out of etc.
Usually I'd bung stuff on Ebay, but quite a bit of it is boxed board games and bulky items which will be heavy and costly to post. Then I started lokoing around and realised it's not just toys - we have books, PC games, clothes - all sorts really! I've heard that people set up Facebook pages to sell this sort of stuff locally, so my question is twofold really.....1) how can I check whether there is already a local page that I could add my stuff to?...and 2) how would I go about setting up a page to sell my stuff?
Not very experienced on Facebook - I have a page but am only friends with people I already know (and quite like it that way!).
Any advice would be gratefully redeived! Thanks.

Not sure of area where you are but in my area we have a couple of local facebook pages where people sell unwanted items not sure how good they are0

type in for sale ad your area, for example for sale london in the search bar and it should locate a group for you. I sell alot of my stuff via facebook and it is better than ebay at times but be prepared for a lot of no-shows,thats the only downside i find0

My area has a "buy, sell and swap" group. Ive posted a "wanted" ad on there, I know a lot of people who have had a lot of success both buying and selling.Love, through the trees, past the sky, beyond the northern lights; and I won't let go. May your soul and spirt fly sweetheart x
My alphabet-girls are with me every step of the way x0 -
Thanks for all the replies - I've done a search and found a fairly well populated local group so hopefully will start putting some stuff on in the next few days. Thanks again!0

If you live on a busy road you could put an advert in your front window.0

not facebook but you could try some of these and specify collection only:
gumtree

I have bought and sold lots on my local Facebook site - and its so much better than E bay i find as no fees or packaging things up - i have had a couple of no-shows but i find naming and shaming them on the site has helped! - get people to collect from you - again cheaper as you have no fuel costs - and ive also delivered the odd item for a cost - its win win - but only if you have a well populated site - i live in a very small area and our group has over 4000 members! good luck :beer:0

I am in a local group with over 10000 members. You have to watch cos lots of people will haggle you down. Stand firm and you will eventually get them sold. Much better than ebay cos there are no fees to pay.
Good luck with all your sales :beer:0 -
A friend of mine sells on facebook but more as a business and does quite well from it but that is new items, i have never heard of second hand selling on there.
I have always used Gumtree for selling unwanted items and always seem to be able to get rid of them for a decent price.
Good Luck and make sure to let us know how you get on!0 -
facebook ahsa market section.. maybe only worthwhile if you have a lot of 'friends'..
do free ads on gumtree, or friday-ad.. be sure to make clear that buyer collects!
F/ad is good cos you can renew them each week, quite easily!Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0
