Can't do my Self Assessment

I've done my tax return online on New year's day for 6 years and tonight the website is saying the only thing I can do is register for VAT yet when I try to add self assessment to my services it says I'm already registered. I know it's not a glitch as I've logged in with my sister's details and hers are ok.I've never had any problems before and you can't email them-you have to ring a costly 0845 number and no doubt wait in a horrendous queue.
Has anyone else had this problem, thanks?

The cost of the phone call will be less than the £100 penalty you'll get if the return's not in on time. Call the online helpdesk on 0845 605 5999.elainehollis wrote: »I've done my tax return online on New year's day for 6 years and tonight the website is saying the only thing I can do is register for VAT yet when I try to add self assessment to my services it says I'm already registered. Hi Elaine,
I'm a bit confused by your description!
The way I do it is go to the HMRC homepage (https://www.hmrc.gov.uk), Click the login link in the Do it online box (top LHS). This takes you to the Log On to HMRC Online services page (https://www.hmrc.gov.uk/online existing). Click on the top link Self Assessment and that should take to the login page for self assessment.
You do not need register again or add any services if you are already registered for self assessment.
If I have misunderstood and this is what you are doing, my apologies and as Gaspowertoothbrush says you will have to contact them0
