Can't get mortgage any advice??

Hi,

My wife and I are struggling to currently get a mortgage. We've been turned down by Santander and NatWest. We have a 10% deposit but I have a Default on my credit file for £900 dating back to 2006. We have had a mortgage before for 15 years but sold and are currently in rented.

Combined earnings are around £62000 and are looking for a mortgage of £200000.

My current credit score is 880 and my wife's 976...

Any help appreciated!!!

Thanks

When in 2006? Can you wait until it falls off your credit record after 6 years?

Save more and increase the size of your deposit.

I agree the default should disappear next year perhaps just keep on saving til it's gone?
I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.
  • Thanks for the replies, will my default get taken off my credit file from date of default or when they last updated the file??

    Cheers

Usually 6 years from default date but the creditor could apply for it to remain at any time.

Has it been settled? Could you get a 15% deposit or find a cheaper property?

  • Could you not just settle it ?
The once you have done that , get a copy of your Experian file & present it to potential borrowers & explain what happened
