I've been so busy doing advent comps that I nearly missed this one in my Inbox ...

Like here

Direct link to advent calendar & comp

The prizes aren't every day (2 so far on 1st & 4th). Other days are photo tips or a puzzle game.

Good luck.

Will add a link in advents.

There's a comp for 25/12 as well - photo submission ...

Today's theme is Ambient festive lights. We are looking for your best shot which interprets the theme. Closing date 6 Jan.

Today is just a tip for taking photos in cold weather.

Very appropriate for what I can see from my window, I'll give them that!

    Day 7

    Prize: Coolpix S6200

Unscramble the letters below to name a well known festive accessory. Letters are
    T A C T I C
    S M O G S H R I N K

Answer seems to be 2 words, one 9 letter and second one 8 letter. I'm too tired to figure it out now :(

    A TIP TODAY:

Using picture controls and special effects for fun winter shots

The festive season is a great time to play around with fun and playful shots, incorporating effects and picture controls to add new and exciting dimensions to your family photographs. Picture Controls can be found in many Nikon digital cameras, including D‑SLRs, the Nikon 1 interchangeable lens cameras and COOLPIX compact camera models.
It's easier than ever to add fun special effects to your photography and HD videos. Effects modes such as miniature, fisheye and selective colour allow you to create really unique images and are a great talking point over Christmas dinner or at family gatherings. The effects are accessible when shooting still photos as well as HD video, and are visible to you in live view. Try setting unusual effects to your HD movies for a unique holiday video!
Picture Controls will let you alter the way the camera perceives colour. You can choose a variety of settings from monochrome, vivid, neutral, standard, portrait and landscape. For example, if you're photographing a festive table centrepiece and want your image to be super-saturated, use the vivid setting. For portraits, use the neutral or standard for more life-like colour. Monochrome and sepia can give your images an old-time, vintage feel – fun for nostalgic shots.
Christmas is a-wash with red, green and white. Why not try using the Colour Select effect on your camera (found on models such as the S9100 and D5100) to isolate one of these colours in your scene and turn the rest of your image into a black and white. This is a great way of emphasising details, such as a red scarf against white snow or the green of a Christmas tree in a white living room.
    THANK YOU ALL COMPETITON POSTERS!!
