Child's metal detecting

Options
So at the top of my DD's christmas list ( of a grand total of 2 things) is a metal detector. DD is 5 and pirate mad and loves the thought of finding some hidden pirate treasure!!

I have been researching this for a bit now and have found that the child's metal detectors (national geographic, slinky science, army) all receive somewhat rotten reviews. So then I started researching real metal detectors but then you can start getting into silly money.

I obviously want to get her one which she will be able to work but also will find something so she is at least given the opportunity to find out if it is something she enjoys (plus I think her daddy will have some fun too)

So ( about time after my waffle) has anyone out there got any recommendations for a good working metal detector which would suit a younger child?

Thanks

  • :) I've also got a pirate mad daughter (aged 8) who usually wanders around the house in an eyepatch with foam sword to hand! She has a variety of home made treasure boxes under her bed and has also requested a metal detector for Christmas (along with a drum kit).

I've ordered the National Geographic one which has some good reviews on Reevoo. It was £19.99 at Tesco Direct but I managed to use Clubcard vouchers to pay for it.

    Happy hunting!

My son has a metal detector that we got from Home & Bargain for about £7.99 which seems to be perfectly good, it certainly makes loud beeps at the right places etc. I haven't seen them in there recently though although may be worth keeping an eye out. The next best price I've seen them is in Smyths Toy stores at about £14.99 :)

OP - Did you buy one? My 9yr old daughter wants one as well & I've been put off the Nat Geographic one by reviews.
    Now proud Mumto3 :j
