  • Ooh I just went to thecash machine and checked my balance (something that I rarely do) and I have £140 in my account which I'm going to try not to touch a single penny in my account until Friday.

I recieved £70 in cash at work today (something to do with tax - blahh) I'm took out £20 from the envelope which will be my money for the rest of the week. I went to Tesco and got:

    Meal deal: £2.50
    Peanut Butter: £1.05
    Croissants: 10p
    Wholemeal bread: 7p
(oh, I forgot to mention: I'm rather frugal lol, I'll eat food past it's use by date - as long as I don't see any mould :rotfl:)

In my purse I now have: £16.28

    Welcome to the boards
You have twice mentioned debt collectors now, so have you not been paying money to these debts? If you have been just paying the minimums off each month, then you are not in trouble with your creditors yet.

Capquest and Payplan ARE NOT TO BE CONFUSED. Capquest are not a nice company. Payplan will set up a debt management plan for you for free. BUT. I don't think you are at that stage at all yet. If you increase your payments to each creditor, because you are managing your money properly, then you should have no problems.

I want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?
  • Yes it's all been passed on to debt collectors because I was silly and thought I could keep sweeping everything under the carpet so basically for the last year or so I haven't paid a penny to anyone.

See I'm now a wee bit confused :s I submitted a form on PayPlans website requesting help and got a text from CapQuest telling me to call them...
Does anyone know how that works?

    Thanks Chev!

Capquest are a debt collection agency, it's just a coincedence.
The only debt advice agencies to be trusted are CAB, National Debtline, Payplan, CCCS and Christians against Poverty.

  • Ohh, right, thank you!!
When I'm properly awake I'll give PayPlan a call
Thanks Chev - I would've fallen into a little trap without you

    Money:
    Borrowed my sister: £40
I gave it to her out of the cash from work so I still haven't touched my bank account

    Tesco Meal Deal: £2.50

This is the second time this week that I've left the office to get myself something to eat. I don't know why I don't just get out of bed earlier to make myself a sandwich so I can take my lunch to work.

I didn't have the chance to ring PayPlan (due to my laziness again) but I will make the effort to ring them tomorrow before I leave the house for work

hi and welcome to the boards.
if you need another reason to get up and make a sarni for work just think, meal deals will cost you £12.5 a week. I know you have lots of excess money each week but that just puts you in a much stronger position to get free as quickly as possible, a spending diary is a great idea, as is approaching your debtors, have you looked out your paperwork to see if you can find out all your balances, interest rates, minimum payments and their bank details so you can start sending payments their way. You're in a good position as you've quite a lot of money left after your normal weekly payments so i'm sure you'll be able to steam ahead with clearing your debts. good luck :)
  • :) Thank you LemonTree
From tomorrow I vow to bring a packed lunch to work and not get tempted by Tesco :o

Well for some reason none of the letters mention minimum payments or interest rates

Do you think if I start making payments to them they'll write to me to arrange something? Or should I write to them first to set up some kind of agreement?

to be honest my debts never went to debt collectors but i would probably start by writing to them asking for the details of your debts each one holds, what their interest rates are or whether they've been frozen and bank details.
I would think that if you did a proper SOA you could work out how much you can commit yourself to each week and then when you've got the details from them you can work out how to spread the payments between them. I'm guessing that the minute you start to correspond with them they will start chasing you for payments therefore i'd also include a comment about you will only deal in writing and any phone calls will be deemed to be harrassment etc.
I know if you go on the main DFW thread there'll be others who are more used to dealing with debt collectors including actually challenging the debt itself but i've alway worked along the lines that i had the money and spent it, therefore i should pay it back.
  • Thank you
I'm at work now so I'll spend the next few hours looking for draft letters or some kind of letter writing guidance as well as using the info you gave me :D

I feel like Orange read my mind today; I recived a letter from them about an old phone bill of £129.00 (I knew about this) saying that the debt has been passed on to CapQuest. I phoned CapQuest straight away to set up a £20 weekly direct debit to start this Friday...Which means I'll hopefully be free of one debt by 26/01/12 :T this is like music to my ears knowing my debt is going away (even if it only is a baby step and the direct debit hasn't even started lol)

Oooh I got a phone call from Tesco today in regards to a complaint I made a few days ago about some dodgy noodles I bought from them and they've apologised and added 250 :T Not that this has anything to do with my debt clearance....It's just something I'm also rather excited about
