Just checked with the snowballing calculator. If I carry on paying my debts at £460 per month like at the moment I will be debt free by November 2009. I don't know what I thought.... guess I thought it would be sooner. Oh well... chin up I guessJan 1st 07 Car loan £4830.46@12% Personal Loan £11,517@8% variable Overdraft £1500 July 2009Halifax-£0Debt free date 14th July 2009 :j0

Have decided to try to make my signiture more positive and put in the date which my car loan will hopefully come to an end.
Have agreed with my parents to use the money in my ISA to pay off a wee bit more of my car loan instead of getting my bathroom done. Have promised them that I WILL get it done though when I can afford it.
Have had no interest in my stuff on ebay so far but it is on auction for 10 days so maybe more nearer the end time.
Have saved up aprox £250 towards my car insurance so far and will have another £100 after pay day on 25th.
This week is set to be quite expensive. Have WW tomorrow £5, netball on Tuesday £3.50 now, Cinema on Wed (not too expensive as have my card, Cinema on Thursday, and a friends b/day night out on Friday. Will just have to be careful with my money next week. I was given a bottle of rose wine by one of my clients so have kept this for my friends b/day (we don't do presents just wine and a card- have still not got the card though so thats another outlay this week) Will just have to be careful!Jan 1st 07 Car loan £4830.46@12% Personal Loan £11,517@8% variable Overdraft £1500 July 2009Halifax-£0Debt free date 14th July 2009 :j0 -
Hi
Have just read through the whole thread.
Well done for being so motivated! Don't beat yourself up when you have little slip ups. They're only minor things and the important thing is that you have dusted yourself off and got right back on track every time.
I think your parents have been very good helping you so that you can sort out your debts but I do not understand why they're writing off your sister's 10k and not yours. Did you tackle your Dad about it, was that the reason for your bust up? If you haven't yet, maybe let your sister know how it's made you feel and see what she says. Then I would write a letter to your Dad if you find it difficult confronting him. (That sounds bossy  That's just what I would do, you do whatever you like, lol) :rotfl:
At the end of the day, you are coping brilliantly, you're on top of your debts and you have a boyfriend that obviously loves you to bits.

Thanks Superpup
Its great coming on here and talking to people about it. I know some people have been saying that our debt diaries have taken up too much room but it really helps me. This forum and website has been great.
I did speak to my sister about the money. She became really angry about it and didn't speak to me for a week after I didShe said that it was her business and I should speak to my parents about my 10k as that was my business. I wasn't aggressive when I asked her and I really tried to be gentle as at the end of the day its not her fault.
When I spoke to my mum about the money she clammed up. I really don't think she envisaged my sister telling me that her money was being given unconditionally. She said she would only speak to me about it with my dad present. My Dad later confronted me about it and told me that I'd lost all my generosity and he didn't like me anymore. That happened this week and made me so miserable I couldn't get out of bed for a few hrs.
I spoke to my boyfriend about it all tonight and we made up a statement of affairs together including his earnings. He offered again to pay off some of my debt with his savings. I love him loads and loads and don't want to take advantage of him so I said no again. We agreed though that he'd save in his ISA while I try to pay off as much of my debt so we'll have a deposit to put down towards our house when we buy one together in the future. I will hopefully have a wee bit of equity in the flat too.
Its not all bad with my parents. I apologised later in the week for being such a bad daughter and I have tried to be more generous with my time rather than with money as I don't have any.
I would love to get my car loan paid off by the end of this year if this is possible. Even though my boyfriend said that I no longer need my parents approval I would really like to make them proud of me not like in career as as they said they bought me my education but by saving and being more generous.Jan 1st 07 Car loan £4830.46@12% Personal Loan £11,517@8% variable Overdraft £1500 July 2009Halifax-£0Debt free date 14th July 2009 :j0 -
Have had 2 NSD so am proud of myself. I missed my weight watchers class tonight as my boyfriend was late out of work so that saved me some money.
Got my travel expenses today which I've budgeted for. Am keeping money aside for my car service as its needs to be done sometime really soon. Hopefully my boyfriends dad will get it done at his garage and get me his discount (fingers crossed).
Now only one week to go till payday. Am by no means near my Od limit at the moment just know where my money is going. Its a good feeling. Feels a bit more like I'm back in control of thingsJan 1st 07 Car loan £4830.46@12% Personal Loan £11,517@8% variable Overdraft £1500 July 2009Halifax-£0Debt free date 14th July 2009 :j0 -
I was in my branch paying in a travel expenses cheque and I noticed the were doing a 0% credit card for 13 months when you balanced transfered. I took a leaflet and I phoned them in the hope I could balance transfer my car loan which I hope to pay off during that time to save interest.
They first of all said I could do so with the 0% offer which I was over the moon about. I requested confirmation of this in writing and then they came back to say that although I could balance transfer it would not be at the introductory 0% price and at their normal APR of 17%!! No thanks. Anyway stupid RBS for getting my hopes up:mad:   . Back to the drawing board

I have spent £26 this weekend which is okay. Had budgeted for more as had my friends b/day night on Friday but even while tipsy I tried to keep my spending to a minimum. When I was tipsy used to be the real killer for me. I used to be the person who thought I had a stackful of money behind the bar and gave everyone a drunk 'on me' or on the credit card companies cause it was really their money I guess.
I paid off another £120 of my car loan today. Changed my sig a wee bit. Minumum payment doesn't come out till Tuesday though.Jan 1st 07 Car loan £4830.46@12% Personal Loan £11,517@8% variable Overdraft £1500 July 2009Halifax-£0Debt free date 14th July 2009 :j0 -
hi to betti911
I can sympathise with you re your sister getting more financial help than you - particularly as you thought you were getting the money towards your flat without "strings". Unfortunately - cant think what practical advice I can give that would be helpful. But I have been in similar situation with my parents - in that my brother spent more time living at home with parents than I did when we started our respective jobs at first, so handed over more for "board and lodge" than I did by far. My board and lodge money was gone once I handed it over - but my brother, on the other hand, was given back all his board & lodge money towards his housebuying (even though he was buying together with a wife - but I was buying on my own).
I know my brother is a less intelligent, capable sort of person than I am - so whether that was the excuse for helping him out financially to a much greater extent than I had or no I don't know. But one should not be penalised for being more capable!
My brother still - to this day - believes he should have more help than I do. If I had ever had children I would have vowed to treat them equally - but what can one do? I certainly would not be apologising for being a bad daughter to your parents if I were you - after unfair treatment like that!
Best of luck!0 -
Thanks Ceridwen. My sister does earn less than me but she has now got a live in partner who earns more than I do. My dad told me a few times when we were growing up that I was the less intelligent out of the two of us but I guess thats made me work harder. I know that my parents are disappointed in the way I've handled my finances and my life in the past. I know I have made some mistakes but I'm trying really desperatly to put them right.
My boyfriend has offered quite a few times to use his savings to pay off my debts but I can't accept that. This debt journey... sounds dramatic and corny but its not meant to.... has been one of the hardest lessons I've learned.Jan 1st 07 Car loan £4830.46@12% Personal Loan £11,517@8% variable Overdraft £1500 July 2009Halifax-£0Debt free date 14th July 2009 :j0 -
Have dfollowed your diary with interest and despite being a lurker rather than a poster I had to come on here and say how sorry I am to read that your parents are not treating you and your sister the same. As a mother of 3 I cannot understand this at all and I certainly do not agree that parents should criticise their children and put them down. Each child has its own strengths and weakness's and while I don't want to stir things up for you I have to say that you should be very proud of what you are achieving. Let no one put you down ever again as you are doing brilliantly. I am glad to read that your OH is being so supportive. He sounds very nice so listen to him rather than family as he sounds as if he makes more sense. Good luck.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0
