I'm Engaged!

Some of you may have seen my posts on the 'Waiting for a proposal' thread about my OH dropping hints and me left wondering when he would propose. I thought (or should I say hoped) he would do it on my birthday next month as he is taking me away for the weekend. It is what he had in mind, but he changed his mind!

Friday night we had arranged to go to a local Italian for dinner. Nothing special, we just like to have a 'date night' once every few months. Anyway, we'd both got ready and I was in the lounge when he shouted me into the kitchen saying he'd got something for me. He handed me what was obviously a jewellery gift box, but with the way he handed it to me I just thought it was some earrings or something. Opened the box (to find another box inside grr) and inside was a ring (white gold diamond solitaire) and he asked me to marry him!! I couldn't speak! All I managed to do was nod at him!

We went for the meal, but I couldn't eat it and couldn't sit still all night! I'm still buzzing now! We were meant to be having a halloween party last night, but that kind of turned into an engagement party!

It was lovely because I had absolutely no idea at all that he was planning to propose that night! He'd been to Meadowhall the day before to buy the ring, got it in the house and got it out on the Friday and I had no idea. Sneaky git!! I am the most [STRIKE]observent[/STRIKE] nosey person ever so he did well to hide it!

So, we're hoping to do it in spring/summer 2013 if we can find anywhere available. Can't wait to start the planning :D

Congratulations! What a lovely suprise for you :j
I love being engaged!! :) My fiance proposed after we had been together 6 months and even though I was expecting it at some point, I was still in tears!!! Luckily nobody noticed (he proposed at the top of the Eiffel Tower) because I must have looked a state! :rotfl: It's still surreal even 6 months later and can't believe I'm going to marry my soul mate.
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!! Have a great time planning, enjoy your engagement and have a great life together :)

My other half proposed to me on Christmas day, having been together for three years and two months! It was a total surprise and the best Christmas present ever.

Congratulations - and well done your OH on managing to sneak that one past you! We'd been together 5 years when my proposal came. He'd taken me away on a surprise trip for the week of my birthday - to Switzerland when I was convinced it would be Ireland. I knew he'd booked this lovely restaurant in Bern for the evening of my birthday and was determined to stay cool all day until he popped the question in the evening (several friends said he must be proposing, I tried to push it out my mind but was so hoping they were right!!) But he totally threw me by proposing at the top of the Jungfrau mountain out in the snow!
Have great time enjoying all the planning...I'm already missing that now!

Thanks all. Wow, I'm soooo excited!! OH has been planning already, he's come up with a lovely idea for the invites. I think we've got an idea of how we want it all and we agree and all but a few things, so I can't wait to get stuck in! Going to phone some venues today and hopefully have a look at them at the weekend.
