I just wanted to say don't be afraid of talking to the tax office, they are friendly these days and will try to help you if you are up front with them. As for the bank charges the info you need is on this thread with the templates etc at the top of the board and lots of good advice from people who have done it and got their money back...Good luck...

  • I agree with the others who say call the inland revenue and just be honest. If you're open with them before it's due they'll more than likely be happy to help.
    hope you get it sorted.

  • hi,

Just wanted to thank you all for you kind posts. I'm still in a debt mess, but am lucky enough to have great parents. How sad is that 36 and still borrowing from them. Anyway my dad, who is aware of my situation, offered to pay my tax bill. I know, I'm too lucky for words. I'm determined to pay them back as well as get mysely out of this.
Have been selling things on e-bay, £194.00 for things lying about in my flat can't be bad!

It's not sad, it's family, and at the end of the day, THAT'S what it's all about!! Walk tall, my friend!! Debs xx
  • It may not be a bad as you think.
Your January tax bill will probably include a pre payment for the next tax year and this is based (estimated) on what you paid last year. If you don't think your tax liability will be as much, you can have the estimate reduced to what YOU think you will owe. That is what self certification is all about.
Now that the Inland Revenue are no longer classed as preferential creditors (and about time) they are not so keen to rush you into bankruptcy and are more likely to accept a reasonable offer as long as you can clear your bill before the next one is due. I have been doing this with them for years and each time they tell me that because I have had an arrangement in the past I can't have another. I tell them I can't pay and guess what? We come to an arrangement. Don't let them intimidate you. Don't part with Dad's money if you don't have to - you may need to go to him in the future.
When you approach the IR make sure you have something to offer on the spot. They are pretty much obliged to accept it. But don't part with it until they agree to an arrangement. If they were to take you to court what would they say. "She offered to pay Your Honour but we refused and sued her instead". Not a chance. Be brave girl - this is one battle you can win.

If your bank owe you money - get it back and don't forget to add interest. You can reclaim up to 6 years. PM me if you need help with this and I'll refer you to someone who is brilliant at it.
    Good Luck
