I'm looking for a recipe for biscuits I used to make when my kids were little. It came out of an old version of the Goodhousekeeping Cook Book that has since fallen to pieces. I know that it used syrup and oats but can't remember what else. It was also under the rather unfortuate non pc name of 'Nig Nogs' ....we used to call them crunchie biscuits. Has anyone got the recipe? My daughter really wants us to make them. She's 22 nearly 23 and is reminicing about the old days
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

My edition is 1983, and there is nothing called NigNogs in the index.
I'vbe had a look through and can see a recipe for Anzac Biscuits (butter, syrup, coconut, oats, walnuts) and Rich Ginger Flapjacks (demerara, syrup, oats, ginger)
Nothing else in that section seems to use oats and syrup
Either of these help?0 -

Ok here goes:
75g (3oz) plain flour
2.5 ml (halfteaspoon) bicarbonate of soda
75g (3oz) caster sugar
75g (3oz) rolled oats
75g (3oz) butter/marg
15ml (1 tablespoon) milk
15ml (1 tablespoon) syrup
Grease 2 baking sheets. Sift flour and bicarb and stir in the oats and sugar.
Heat the butter, milk and syrup together until melted, pour on the first mixture and mix well. Roll into small balls and place 10cm part on the baking sheets. Flatten slightly and bake in the oven at 150degrees C (300F) gas mark 2 for about 25-30mins. Let them cool on the sheets for 2-3 mins, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Makes 20And yes the lady in the avatar is me

I remember cooking these but they were called something else. I can't remember what? With 80 odd cookery books sometimes I can't even remember where I found a recipe I loved.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

I learned a lot of cooking from the GH book many moons ago. My one had detailed pictures in. Gave it to my DIL but she never used it and still doesn't cook!
I have an old BeRo book I'll look in that for you.

Thanks a lot ...that is the correct recipe. When i used to make them I used to double the quantities as they got eaten so fast. Sian will be making them today...that I'm sure of.
A similar biscuit, I have since found by searching on internet, is the anzac biscuit [ mentioned above by dannahaz - thanks] but contains coconut. We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -
No problem, just tell Sian to save you some!!!!And yes the lady in the avatar is me
