Keen to be debt free's diary

Hello everyone,
I've decided to start a diary here - seems to be a great place to be able to discuss/rant/moan/worry/celebrate! with others in a similar situation - and I'm hoping a visit here every day will keep me motivated.
I have built up quite a bit of credit card debt as you'll see from my signature and I've now faced up to this and am determined to be debt free by 2014 - sooner if I can.
I am so tired of waking up worrying, being distracted by the debt. It must be an amazing feeling to have no money worries and to be able to focus on other things. I always feel that debt stress makes you feel as if you're only 'half' living. I'm feeling this much less now, however, that I'm dealing with it.
My plans:
Hope you're having a good day

My plans:
- Cancel Sky HD+ (was on a 50% off 12 month package which has just run out)
- Am looking for a cheap phone/broadband package
- Am taking small steps with the DFW thread
- Am looking into PPI refunds which, if successful, will go straight into my debt
- I have visited the What's the Cost site and used the snowball tool - I will pay off the Virgin card first
- I am self employed so have worked out our budget according to the minimum wage and will stick to that
- Complete an SOA
- Look at earning extra bits and pieces through making cards and taking on new work
- Going to list regularly on Ebay
Hope you're having a good day

Ok - day 3!
Been sticking to my plan so far....
I have:
1. Changed over from Sky+ HD to a cheap broadband/phone package and will be getting a Freeview box (saving of approx £60 a month)
2. Signed up with 3 survey companies and will do some more this week. Already got about £5.15.
3. Looked out my PPI paperwork - two of the credit cards have PPI. Will follow this through.
4. Going to get in touch with my bank - £30 a time over limit charges. Not been charged for a few months but going to see if I can get any of these charges back.
Keenly following a few diaries. Seeing the efforts everyone's making and the balances come down is an inspiration.
Back soon!0 -
Trying to decide how often to update my signature....

hi keentobedebtfree
good luck with the debt busting! your debt is similar to mine and we're hoping to be debtfree by 2014 also! I've just cancelled the hd+ subscription on my sky also. have kept the basic packages though as kids are at home so they like the cartoons (and so does my sanity lol)

Thanks everyone for your posts - nice to have some company!!!
debtfreewanabee321 - I ended up going for the Plusnet broadband/phone bundle at about £16 a month and will get a freeview box when the Sky contract finishes in a couple of weeks. Beginning to wonder if I should have kept the basic Sky package... We'll definitely miss it but we'll see how we get on.
Skint but Optimistic - thanks, great idea to put milestones - will do that.
Aiming High - yes, I have already become addicted! Money saving is constantly on the mind!!! 1000s of times better than waking up totally stressed out, eh!0 -

I wake up thinking what can I sell today? :rotfl:
I'm already dreaming what I can pay towards a debt when hubby gets paid tomorrow, when in theory it will be a tight month as I'm on a 5 week month so it's got to pay the bills and last another 3 weeks. :eek:You have to start to finish.

Lol i also wake up thinking, 'can I be bothered listing on ebay today, hmmm how much might i make' as for the sky, we've got rid of the movies and didn't have sports anyway so it's around £22 a month now which obviously could be cut to nothing with a freeview box but I do like the extra channels we get so see it as our treat
-got to have some treats eh or we'd go mad on this debt free journey x

Definitely, Aiming High! Not one single penny will be wasted now as far as I'm concerned. I'm so enthusiastic about it all, I hope I don't bore my friends and family too much. Kids are already looking at me (the former Starbucks addict that I am) with puzzled faces when I say, "We have to save, save, save!"
DFW321 - I'll have to find some kind of treat for the kids - maybe I can buy a box where you can buy the odd wee film. Dunno. Will check it out tonight.
Ordered in a huge bag of coffee beans today from Ebay - much cheaper than buying at the supermarkets - and can't do without ma coffee!
Tonight I'm going to get that Ebay stuff ready for photographing and look into other ways to make a little bit of extra cash.
Hope you've had a great day!!0 -
WOW that post rang so many bells. I'm sick of hearing me talking about it....so goodness help those I work with. I'm also a coffee addict though my crime of passion is Neros AND I've just done my totals and they're about the same.
Here's to both of us getting debt free ASAP :beer:You have to start to finish.
