Nails - 'natural' or colour

I never normally do much with my nails but went and had a manicure and shellac type treatment as a practice run. For now I've had them done in a gorgeous plum colour that I love and a couple of people have said it would look good as I'll be wearing a silver dress and purple is my colour theme. I also saw a polish in a more cadbury purple that matches my BMs dress and my shoes.
My dilemma now is whether to go with a pinkish more natural nail colour, or go mad with some colour. Points to consider...
1) these will be in my wedding photos for ever
2) I'm 47 - not totally past it but not going all out for mad funky alternative look
3) I will get grief for the cadbury purple which is my mum's least favourite colour :rotfl:

  • i voted natural, only because i thought coloured nails might be a bit too much (& detract attention) when holding your bouquet (assuming it will be purple), especially in close up photos of you holding it. but its your day so go with what feels right for you.

Thanks pinktiger...could point about the bouquet and entirely reasonable assumption, but it is in fact mostly cream roses, fair bit of greenery and the odd splash of purple freesia
  • I've voted purple :D

If you're getting loads of compliments on it now and you love it, then go for it. I've seen a few brides with coloured nails and I think it looks lovely. I don't think that they look too 'out there' at all. As for the photos, they'll still look fab in 30 years' time.

    And I'm sure your mum'll cope! :)

  • Hi Ellay :) I think either would look lovely so just go with which you prefer. As long as the purple is an exact match for your colour theme and won't clash, I think it'd look fine.

A friend of mine married in June and her colour scheme was baby blue so she went for blue nails which also sorted her 'something blue' :p

What do you think of the shellac? I've never had it done and was planning to go for Geleration which lasts a similar time but some people have advised shellac is better.

  • Bright could be funky, but the problem with darker colours is that if they chip it's very obvious.

I would go for purple, it sounds fab. I'm not a massive fan of french polishes, and I think coloured nails look awesome on a bride :D
Don't worry about what your Mum thinks, go for what you like best :)
  • I painted my nails purple for my wedding. I'm really not a french manicure type of girl and coloured nails are much more 'me' which is exactly what I wanted! :D

Gofor the colour,I had my nails a gorgeous shade of red but a certain someone said it didnt look right for a wedding. I took the polish off and went with natural but I really regret it now. Go with what you want not what other people think. Sorry for rant but I really wish Id followed my heart and gone with the coloured nails lol x

in that case go with the purple (i should know better than to presume anything!), especially if as you said they have a cadburys purple which matches your colour scheme x

  • Hmm, I'm now wondering whether to go for colour myself...I'll probably do my own nails, and previous attempts at a French manicure have been less than successful :o so colour may be the way forward. Either purple or peach. Or metallics - gold nails ftw!!! :T
