Tripped yesterday whilst carrying DD and banged her head. She ended up in hospital overnight due to concussion /vomiting:( We've all been tired and grumpy after a sleepless night with hourly obs. To top things off Father Christmas has just travelled down the street on his sleigh (local charity) and DD twigged it was her Grandad. Not sure I explained it very well.....I think she may think her Grandad is THE Father Christmas....

OH's car has died. :( He needs transport for work so we will have to replace, which means our emergency money is now gone. He is running round like a headless chicken ....bum!

Not a particularly eventful week. Oh has bought a bike to replace the dead car, hopefully this will cut petrol and maintenance costs. Typically he sold his leathers/boots/locks etc a couple of years ago when we decided we wouldn't have motorbikes any more due to the children/safety. I kept mine though:D

Our emergency fund is pretty much exhausted, only £1k left and I've managed to rack up £1350 overdraft, so that needs attacking first. I've a feeling the boiler and flat roof will need replacing this year...

Inspired by Wynnvegas' thread and started to think of things I would spend my surplus £1200 on each month if I had paid off the mortgage...holidays to Linisfarne & Vegas would be the first purchases.

:rotfl: she would be a very lucky little girl indeed to have a grandad who was THE Santa! Bless her.

I'm sorry to hear about your car :( you're right that a bike is much cheaper to run though - that's the reason we have one. Shame about having to buy all the gear again though :rotfl: sod's law that! What bike did he go for? We have a bandit 600 called Abigail :) is your OH happy to do maintainance and fixing himself as well? (ie, is he a fiddler?!) if his birthday is soon perhaps he can ask for a Haynes manual as a gift?

Lindisfarne was lovely! Fantastic for bird watchers and it has wonderful open skies. I also visited Jarrow when I was in the north, which is where the honourable Bede lived. Bede's World (http://www.bedesworld.co.uk/) covers the little church of the monastery he lived in and also has a fab Saxon Village to visit, although it's a little incongruous seeing the cranes the nearby by Tyne estuary port towering over the tiny thatched cottages!

The other place to visit near Lindisfarne is Bamburgh Castle, although I couldn't squeeze both the castle and Lindisfarne into the one day by public transport, so I skipped it, unfortunately... it's a good excuse to go back, I suppose!

Lindisfarne and Bede's World are very complementary attractions for a weekend away. You probably don't have to wait until you get your extra £1,200 a month, neither is particularly expensive, both are accessible by public transport and I'm sure you could get some cheap hotel deals for a Saturday night :)

    Hi Cazzie,
He's bought a little 250 - a bit of a difference as he had a Ducati SS and I had a Monster:D Although I swore I wouldn't have one again with the children I am VERY tempted. (we knew of a couple who were killed, leaving four young children).

Sepa - we stayed in Alnwick for a week in October and I fell in love with Lindisfarne. Would love to stay on the Holy Island for a few days when we have some spare cash (actually I'd love to live in the castle....) I hadn't looked into Bede's world, but will definitely do that when we go back - thanks for the link.

Managed to get the overdraft down to £300 by selling the car as spares/repairs. Been sensible on the healthy eating plan and lost another lb....going to be a slow old journey:)

Well done on the OD, and the 2lb loss :)

A 250 is a bit of a difference, but if it's just for commuting he doesn't need much more really. I know what you mean about not riding if you've kids; it's not my OH's riding that worries me, as I know he's a very good rider. The times he's had issues because of road conditions he's not been hurt or had much bike damage really, but the times he's been injured have all been at the hands of other drivers - it's them I worry about. Taxi drivers who overtake on corners, minibus drivers who speed down side streets without due care and attention, other bikes pulling out from side roads without looking, idiots who cross the central lines... it's never ending. :(

Very true! I used to live on the IOM which is very bike aware because of the TTs. The driving over here can be scary:eek:(mainly the oldies;)).
