A level's

Results Day!!

Good Luck to everyone!!

My eldest hasn't reached A Level age yet, so we have another week to wait on GCSE results!!:eek: He actually doesnt give two hoots..... me on the other hand.... well im not sleeping properly, crawling up the walls and im so scared, I haven't even bought him a uniform for maybe going back!!

His school want him to have at least 13 points to get back in to do A levels, and they way they work it out is

A = 3 points
B = 2 points
C = 1 point

To do a subject at A level they need to get at least a B in the subject at GCSE level.

So the countdown has REALLY begun!!!!!!

    I know a fella who was really good at art, etc.....only got 3 or 4 GCSE's and the school lot him back because he got A's - A+'s in his woodwork, technology and art. Schools will make exceptions for some students if they excel in certain disciplines, and they'll allow certain students to resit some exams in lower 6th to make up the points....don't panick, there can be ways around the issue

    Im really worried tbh,

    DS is statemented, has a CA, and in 3rd year, we were asked if *his school* was the right place for him to do his GCSE's......

    I told him then that he needed to knuckle down....

    He has done 2 GCSE's that are "modular" and his maths module has always been VERY strong... last one was 127/127 full marks!!
    (think thats when the school realised he was in the wrong tier, (put in that tier under teachers advice) )

    So im hoping he gets a B in maths..... just need the other 10 points from his other GCSE's then.

    His English is really BAD... And we both think if he gets a C he will be Lucky!!
    Yet he has picked Sociology for A level!!!!!

    Chemistry hoping a C praying for a B (he wants to do this at A level)... so another point
    Physics hoping a B (again he wants to do this at A level).... another 2 points
    Art possibly a C... so a point

    so out of the rest of his GCSE's we need another 6 points.... and im panicing!!

    It might even have been the same school Mumoffour - I think we are from the same area - but at parents evening when we had to choose the tier, my DS's maths teacher told me the outright lie that my DS could still achieve the full range of marks at intermediate tier in Maths. In fact a B was the highest mark possible. I am still cross about that 4 years on!

    Fingers crossed for your son and best of luck to you for getting through the next week and staying sane. It seems to be harder on parents than the kids!

    Usually people say Sociology is a mickey mouse degree, but I think as long as he goes for Chemistry along with it he could open up his chances of being a psychiatrist or a Doctor, need social training plus come out a Dr. .....good money in that business.....failing the Doctor bit he could become a phycologist, plenty of work in that are too.

    as for his English, it will improve with age, plus he could resit it in lower 6th if he doesn't get a C
  • My eldest DD is swanning around with not a care in the world and is quite confident she will get most of hers!! I don't know who she's trying to convince me or herself!! She needs to get 5 and at least a B in her English to do her A Levels. Here's hoping!!
