I forgot to add that it would probably be a lot safer to cash up money every month and put it in the bank, and you'd get interest. It also won't be the weight of a baby elephant when you're carrying it to the bank like mine was. ;)

How long have you been collecting? I'm sure I get much less then £1/year doing this.

Probably started around 16 I should think. Now my girlfriend does the same thing :)

A good place to look is outside shops frequented by secondary school children. It seems to be cool to throw away coppers!!

I used to make loads of money when I was at school. The boys always threw their coppers away and shout, 'Scramble', I didn't care one man's waste is another girl's treasure.

...look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves...

I have a '6th sense' for money others have dropped, I found £40 outside a supermarket once and a fiver the other day while out walking the dog. :)

My mum always recited the rhyme "Find a penny, pick it up, and all day you'll have good luck", so I do this now as a matter of habit. Not too sure about the luck bit though ;)

I find that when i do pick up a penny something bad happens, ive done it 5 times and everytime something rotten has happened so i don't bother.

  • The seats on rollercoasters are a good source of pocket change. One trip to alton towers we bagged £6 just off the corkscrew!

Every ride op will check their rides at the end of the day to bag the booty - I know I did when I was one! ;)
