we save up 1's,2's,5's and occasionally 10's and 20p's.
Once a month they are counted up and if they are £1 are used to help pay a little more off the mortgage.
Every penny helps.

we have a jar which is labelled 'spare change' this is where all our coppers live. Think we have abotu a £1 in there so far!
Then i have a terramundi pot for all the 5ps, 10ps and 20ps if we have any that are taking up space in our pockets - granted not much but every little helpsTime to find me again0 -
We have a jar at home where we keep the coppers. End of month when money is tight we cash it in at Asda (they got a machine counting it) and get some food for it. It has saved us on many occasions.
My children are always looking on the ground for treasure/money and get to keep what they find in their money box0 -
My best ever find was a £10 note, blowing along the Fulham Road one evening in London's Chelsea! There was nobody else about and I looked around, half expecting a Jeremy Beadle-type set-up!
But I always keep an eye out for cash on the floor, and am never to proud to bend down and pick it up - much to the amusement of my friends/colleagues. Its something my Dad started with me when I was little, particularly in carparks (before the days where the out of town centres provided free parking) - he always used to say "eyes down!" as its amazing how many people drop coins while they are digging in their pockets walking from their cars to the ticket machines. I guess maybe they don't notice, or perhaps the coins roll under parked cars which are later moved (allowing me to see them!;)), but I used to find at least one coin most times...:D
We always save coppers and bag them up and take them to the bank. I've never had a problem with my bank accepting them or limiting the amount I can pay in (HSBC), but quite often I use them to pay some of the balance off my credit card.
This might be an idea for people whose banks restrict the amount they will accept, as I don't think they would be allowed to refuse the money if it was paying a bill (rather than just paying into an account)...?

I bought a recipe book at a carboot fair one day.....and when I got home and looked through it, I found a £20 note! I pick up change from the ground, wash it (money laundering :rotfl: ) and either save it in a jar to take to a money converter machine at my local supermarket or put it in my purse for shopping with!0
