I think that 7% goes to charity.

Im afraid thats not the case for the CoinStar machines, its how the company makes its money. I think you have the option to donate your change to charity or take it yourself in the form of a voucher to redeem instore. Either way the company take theri 7% AFAIK.

I've got a big whisky bottle and shove copper and 5ps in it...........never get to more than £40 in it though before I have to empty it out otherwise its too heavy for me to life.
'Needs must' situation lately meant it got emtied sooner and had £27 in it....so thats all bagged up now and I'll start again, hopefully for Christmas (I usually do it so that we have some to take for a few days away and the rest for Christmas_

i keep all my coppers, 5p's and occasionally 10p's (when i have alot) in a number of jars. once a years i take them to the coin star machine in asda. i usually have £50+ and i use this to buy the christmas extras (booze, chocs etc ) and a few pressies!! i mentioned this to a friend at work who mentioned she hated small change and usually put it the bag the goods came in and threw it in the bin!! she has taken an old coffee jar from work to keep it in now!!

We have got an old large whiskey bottle that lives at Grampy's house and he saves all of his coppers in it for the two grandchildren, we visit him every Saturday and take all of our coppers down and put in. It only gets emptied once a year, just before christmas and we all sit and count it in to the little plastic bank bags. Whatever the total is we split equally between the two grandchildren, and that an extra christmas present.
    They love it.

    The full saying is
"Find a penny, pick it up. All day long you'll have good luck.
See a penny, let it lie, luck all day will pass you by."

DD was really annoying me in Asda the other week - pulling on my hand. I told her to stop it and she said "but Mummy I can get you some money...." and dragged me over to the coinstar machine. I started explaining to her that you had to put change in and got charged for it when she pulled out a handful of money. £3 Sterling and a few Euros.
Am I evil for making her share it with her brother?
Now wherever we go she's on the lookout for change. I was the same when I was a kid- I even found £1 in a cave once!

We have started keeping a record of how much we find this year (sad? yes but don't care!)
£7.57 to the end of May :T and 29p so far this month.

DS2 still does a paper round and has found £7.30 this month, all of it on the streets including the £5 note which was blowing loose in the middle of the road after the big outdoor dance music concert. I suppose 12 hours of having your head blasted off would be enough to make anybody lose their grip on their cash!

A lot of shops are grateful for the bags of coppers.. businesses have to pay the banks for bags of change so anyone who takes them in is wonderful! I take mine to the greengrocers where my sister works.. a bag of £1 of 1p's or 2p's is 6.55/6.6g (will be grams won't it?.. I'm useless with this 'new fangled money' lol) on the electronic scale.
