'Link' and Student Loans.

Im not sure if this is in the right place, so feel free to move!

Ive got a long standing dispute with a company called 'Link' regarding my student loan from 1996.
I 'deffered' payment of my loan every year with the student loan company, but for reasons unknown to myself, last year, they passed the loan on to 'link' for collection.
'Link' are demanding full repayment, which I simply dont have, and have told them as such. Theyve rung and rung to tell me that it'll be passed on to their 'collections' department, and that further action will be taken if I dont pay up (Im assuming that by 'further action' they mean a ccj?)
I've been in constant contact with them lately, theyve rung my mobile phone, my work, and Ive had to tell them the same thing every time.

this morning though, Ive had a phone call from my parents to say that theyve sent a letter to my parents house, actually addressed to my parents, saying theyve 'tried and failed' to get in touch with me, and so are now writing to THEM to try and get the money.

Im absolutely FURIOUS. Are they actually allowed to do this?
im a 36 year old woman, and am furious that theyve now tried to involve my parents in my financial situation.
You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....

*I have done reading too*
*I have done geography as well*

I'd seriously doubt that they are allowed to contact your parents and lie to them like that, I'd ring them back and ask what they are playing at. I think all debt companies ask for all the money upfront, but settle for payment plans. could you set up something like £10 a month so its manageable for you?

If you have deferred payment then you should contact SLC to find out why they have sold it on as a defaulted loan.

Contract you sign before you received payment of the loans requested contact details of two persons other than yourself that the SLC/Link could contact if you weren't contactable. Not sure why they'd do it if they were in contact with you, but it's in the contracts you sign and accept I'm afraid.
  • There a nightmare... they once range my neighbours to see if I lived in the street.

They were chasing a debt I didnt know about from 10 years back.

    Very Dodgy company
