    Any advice on current accounts?

I think the co-op are a popular choice as long as you have no related debt to them. I found this that may help, you need to make sure that whoever you open an account with is not related to Natwest.

It depends on where exactly you have debts, don't get a current account with that institution as the can set off the money in your account to pay your debt, leaving up the creek so to speak.

The generally favoured basic accounts are co-op cashminder and the barcleys one I think...

You best bet is to figure out where you can go then read the basic bank account page on this site...

Sorry I can't be more help

we're with the coop, and they have been fab. We went overdrawn once in the whole time we've been with them (since 2008, which compared to how we used to be is a miracle!) and they waived the overdraft charge. Very friendly and approachable.x

    Hi Guys,

    Thanks for the responses.

I'm speaking to natwest at dinner! :( Not looking forward to it.

With the co-op account can you setup direct debts and transfer money to and from accounts?

    Cheers,

    Scott

    Good luck with Natwest

Here is the co-op account, says you can do direct debits, I think the only difference is there will be no overdraft

we have 3 bank accounts with coop now, one for my wages, one for his wages and then a joint account for bills and dd. They are all basic accounts, with card but no overdraft. We had to show we could manage 1 account before they let us open the others, but it is easier for seeing what is just bill money and what is ours for spends (eg haircuts, xmas & birthday pressies). It all depends on your style of budgetting.x

Is there anything I should say to them or just listen to what they have to say?

I can pay £300 towards the debts today should I offer that?

    Cheers,

    Scott
  • i would listen to what they say first. Someone with more financial savvy than me (which wouldn't be much, lol) will come along and help.x

Ok - Just got off the phone from Natwest!

    They were really really helpful.

They have offered to consolidate my loan & current account into one payment.

    They have offered 1 & 2year re-payments, either £222.03 for 2years or £423.44 over 1year.

Just need to speak to my partner now and work out what is best.

    Good news i think!!
