I am beginning to think that I might be better off just waiting till the new year, then using the time to save up for an exilim. It seems the most appropriate to my needs. Hopefully, I will be able to find a good deal somewhere.

It seems a lot of trouble to go to just to get a pic of your screen, can you not borrow a camera?

FWIW if you are after a Casio they often have refurbished ones available here:

I've got a graphics card that seems to exhibit some problems periodically. It makes the screen go all pixelated, I can't return it as it works for 80% of the time without incident. However, usually when I'm in the thick of it during a gaming session. It corrupts the screen, so much so that I have to perform a hard reset and reboot.

It sounds likely that your graphics card is overheating and crashing when working hard. If it has one, this could be a result of the cooling fan seizing up.
If you take the side of the PC while it is on you should be able to visually check this out.
If this is the case you would have a good reason to return the card.
