Flippin' Banks!!

God I hate banks!!!
My OH got a letter today saying she was going to be charged for going 47p overdrawn. I'm so mad!! We're claiming the charges back anyway, so I'm not too bothered about that.
I don't get how they can let you go overdrawn. Surely there should be some kind of system in place that stops you from going overdrawn. It's only because the online banking, and infact the banking in general, providing by her bank is pants, serious pile of old grey underpants. I hate her bank!! They make so much money from this, it makes me really cross. The government must be able to draft up a law that says banks can't let people go overdrawn without permission. This type of banking conduct affects the needy, those that could do without it.
Anyway, moan over!

I think alot of people will join in with your rant about banks, me included!
Go for it - get it out of your system!
:heartpuls CG :heartpulsEver wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0 -
have you considered opening a basic bank a/c ...you aren't allowed to overdraw and only have a cash card or electron/solo and not a full debit card, no cheque book but can set up DD and standing orders.0

To be honest, Clapton, it's not really worth it. We've got 3 accounts between us and are very good at managing them usually. It annoyed me that she was allowed to go overdrawn. Surely her card should have been declined.
Grrrrr @ bank!!

Did it go overdrawn because a DD went out? If so, you would have got a charge anyway for DD being refused if they didn't go into the overdraft.
(Its a no win situation)
If it was withdrawing Cash from the machine or using debit card payment then that is well out of order. If there is no overdraft, no they should not let you overspend. I would kick up a stink in this instance as it would be there fault for letting it get overdrawn.
Did they not say it will be charged after X amount of days? Give you time to give them their 47p back?
Either way, add it onto your list of charges already claiming and feel really satisfied when they cough up.0 -

Evans you should have heard me rant this week....I started a thread entitled Crispy Crispy Snip Snip which was the sound of me cutting up my Crapital One card after getting assurances after my final payment went through there'd be no more charges etc....
I went ballistic on Wednesday to discover after Crapital One promising they'd still levied £6 in interest charges despite it all. And I was ultra polite on the phone and no, they still refused to waive the charge.
I will have the last say in the matter when I reclaim six years of charges from them in the new year though.....
Anyone else treated like this you have my sympathies I tell you!
Ok now.breathe......!

I think you misunderstood me. I wasn't saying it was the banks fault. I was saying that their substandard online banking service doesn't allow my OH to accurately view what is in her account. Therefore, assuming she had available funds she went to the shop. What is the banks fault is allowing transactions that will take you overdrawn to be processed. As stated before, my anger is directed at them because it affects people who don't have alot of money anyway, and the charges mean they have even less. If it wasn't for knowing how to reclaim the charges I would be even more angry. My OH has not had a charge on her account for over 4 years, and each charge obviously reflects negatively on her, otherwise, spotless credit file. Had the banks some respect for their customers this charge would never have been levied, since the card would have been declined. My bank won't let me use my card if I haven't got enough funds.

If you say yes to going over drawn, just charge you a fee for being overdrawn.
Good Idea!!

Keeping even a modest float in the account should prevent this. Where I lived in the US for five years it was a criminal offence to go overdrawn, and, believe me, that causes problems of its own. BettiePage asks: Why is it the bank's fault that you (or your OH) overspent?, and that is a fair question, but I agree that the charges are outrageous.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0
