i was just thinking, will kensington expect me to give them a months notice or something for me to stop paying them? i hope not! how much of a token payment is the norm? i paid £23 to virgin yesterday as they rang me and said even though i owe them over £100 (behind with payments) they will accept (and they really really needed apparently) £23 so i felt bullied into it and paid up.

Hi Doodah - in terms of Kensington - you really need to look at the terms of the agreement you sent up with them. I believe that some commercial firms do have clauses built into their contracts that you have to pay notice - but best to check.

Your water rates are exceptionally high, are you on a water meter?

We had cause to use the Gap Insurance on our car and in all honesty they were great in helping us out.

Which company do you have your car insurance through? Couldn't help noticing it was quite high

How much are your monthly payments on your debts usually?
hi, sorry i only just noticed your post.
our water bill is £130 at the mo, but we are paying a years worth of in 3 payments which is why it sounds so high. my car insurance is with norwich union, cheapest i could find on moneysupermarket and confused at the time. i'm 22 with no no claims bonus. it's due for renewal at the end of march.

I'm perhaps being really dense here - highly probable - but if you are paying Kensington for a DMP, why are you paying the likes of Virgin in addition to this? The £100 - is that your monthly DMP payment? It is just that this is way less than what you posted as what you could afford to pay (from your post earlier today). I'm also assuming that Kensington charge for their services?

I'm a bit cynical (been on this board for too long me thinks) but did you sign anything or receive any kind of paperwork from them? Not that I'm saying Kensington would, but I've read enough on here about other companies who promise the world when you start of arrangements with them and then you get a totally different picture when you try to get out of it!

hey. i've only made one payment to kensington so far which was the 'management fee' of £100. i'm due to pay again on the 19th i think. they basically asked me how much i could afford and i guesstimated £100 a month so they said fine. they haven't made any payments to my creditors yet, even though it's been over 2 months now, which is why my creditors keep hassling me. kensington told me right at the start to cancel my direct debits straight away which i did... wish i hadn't now though as it means i have late payment/overlimit charges etc etc as well as everything else. i have had paperwork and i signed an authorisation form. i've had one letter so far from hsbc saying kensington had contacted them but they aren't going to accept the offer.

That fills in the blanks. I'm probably not too surprised then that the companies have not accepted the offers put to them by Kensington. When the likes of CCCS, Payplan, CAB (all of whom offer DMPs absolutely free of charge) put offers to creditors they back up the offer with details of your income and expenditure. It proves that this is all that you can afford to pay and makes it much more likely that they will accept the payment and also in many cases stop interest and any further charges. Best of all, they provide the services absolutely free.
  • thats why we are going with cccs, we where going to go with a company that charges a fee every month, but thanks to these boards we have decided not too.
