Just another DFW diary - Mizmir's progress

Ok - can't wait either. Haven't fully researched this yet but it seems unmissable. OH's uncle has inherited a property from an elderly relative - he is planning to move into it in 2008 when he retires. We were talking about it over the holiday and I said he should rent it out before then. He wasn't keen - said he couldn't be bothered with the hassle (and he doesn't need the money) but then he said - but if you want to do it for me then you can and we can share the rent! We've chatted about it more and seems that if we get the place sorted out to let and find tenants we can have 50% of the rent which on this property might be around £600 a month!! We reckon we will have to spend a little freshening the place up to get a good price (a bit of paint and maybe one carpet - uncle won't help with that as he plans to gut the place before he moves in!) but it will be worth it if we can let it. Will be restricted to a 12 month contract as he wants it back in Spring 2008.
So now - tell me all the downsides!!0 -

Have finally added up the spending diary for last month.... takes sharp intake of breath .... not sure how to soften this one so am just going to 'fess up - total spending was £2756.73
And that doesn't include DDs or mortgage - or the car bill as we haven't had that yet! How on earth did we manage that??
The breakdown goes like this:
Entertainment (meals out, trips, including a stay in a hotel for a wedding): £249.10
Sweets/snacks: £8.77
Coffees/lunches at work: £18.86
Work expenses (reclaimable thankfully): £280.25
Dogs (including large emergency vet bill): £345.77
Kennels: £277
Fuel (for cars): £179
Other car expenses: £5.99
Groceries (including Christmas and NY): £346.95
Christmas presents etc: £493.30
Other presents (21st and wedding): £66.17
Postage:£8.91
Personal spending (haircuts, books etc) - me: £40.91
Personal spending (haircuts, books etc) - OH: £57
Other transport (buses, taxis etc): £20.60
House repairs: £55.97
Clothes (mainly for wedding): £155.45
Parking:£18
Contact lenses (6 months supply): £53.48
Overdue invoice payment: £75.25
Mitigating this (if there is any silver lining) we have had £1456.47 come in in extra income from extra work, dog training, expenses, eBay and gifts - and there is still a hundred or so to claim from the expenses.
But this is still completely crazy. Am feeling very shell shocked. If I hadn't had my light bulb moment before I have now....0 -
Things not going well. I took this week off work so that I could get sorted - paperwork, MS things, house etc. It is now Thursday and I don't feel I have achieved anything.
I'm just feeling overwhelmed by the enormity of it all. Thought I would join the OS Flylady challenge but everyone else seems to be charging through everything and I can't get myself started - and this is when I am off work - I haven't a hope in hell when I go back on monday - I know there is another huge pile of stuff to sort out there too! I just don't know where to start. I'm just sitting here in tears and wasting time online when I should be sorting and cleaning and filing. Someone give me a kick up the backside please!

Awww Mizmir..sorry you are feeling so down...make yourself a cuppa..sit down and drink it...take a deep breath ...grab a piece of paper and write a list of what needs doing...then just pick one thing off it and do that one thing and cross it off the list..then if you feel like it do another one!!!and so on and you'll be through the list in no time...this helps me
It's so easy how we get out of routine...when you don't seem to have enough time in the day ..it's amazing what you get done but somehow it doesn't work the other way around does it?
Don't be hard on yourself either...it doesn't matter at what rate other people are getting things ...what's important is doing things at your own comfortable rate!!0 -
OH mizmir, I do sympathise, that's me all over. Wasting time online while a thousand tasks need doing. Try not to feel bad about it, have you put some music on, that sometimes makes me feel more energised.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

Thanks both of you for making me feel a bit better. Taxi you are right - the cuppa helped. I now have a list (3 pages long and growing but a list!) and have done one small thing off it (unloading and reloading the dishwasher) - and it does feel good to cross it off! I'm going to take the dogs out to get a bit of fresh air to clear my head then I will put on some music and give myself half an hour starting on my nemesis - my office - which at the moment doesn't have any spare floor space and is overflowing with paperwork! I think if I limit myself to half an hour I can face it
.
Will sign off now so no temptations and allow myself some time on line later on.0 -
Mizmir,
January is a bleurgh month - but think how much worse you'd feel if you hadn't had your LBM - what sort of financial hangover would you have?
Crank that music up loud and just dive into the paperwork - I know it's horrible, but once it's done you'll feel sooooo good!
Sending you a hug :grouphug: and hope your feeling more positive soon

No! Not "wasting time online" - getting support from others!
Go and make a coffee, and get started on things when you are ready. If that is not today, who cares. And, I am doing flylady too but haven't been anywhere near my tiles to shine them yet. Too busy "getting support from others".......Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes.
