Hi, I am 3.5 years into BR, declared in Aug/Sept 07. I'd be interested in knowing how things have been for other people at a similar timescale and also further ahead. How do thimngs change after the elusive 6 years?
So far for us things have been quite tough, losing the house and the stigma still attached to BR has proved very hard emotionally.
Be interesting to know what experiences other people have had, especially regards housing.

I'm just over 3 years post BR .. things have improved, I have a couple of credit cards now (managed responsibly of course!) but most mainstream products are still another 3 years out of reach.

Hi smiales.

Nice to hear from you.
I know you've had a rough ride on a lot of fronts, but I hope things are getting better now.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Well done, I haven't tried to get any cards yet, too scared to to be honest. The only thing I have tried to get is a mobile contract and I was refused.
It's a long road....0 -

Hi Fermi, nice to hear from you!
Yes slowly things are better, its all relative I suppose. BR feels very much part of my life still and until I get back on the housing ladder I think I will always feel very penalised by BR!
Most days I still feel very depressed about what has happened and it has made me quite ill over the past couple of years, but when I think about the state we were in at the time of BR it had to happen.0 -
Hi Smiales
I am discharged since Nov 2009 ... just sorting my credit files clean up, its been emotionally draining as you say. I look back at the state I was in financially and emotionally in 2008, plus the few years leading up to B/R, and I can see things getting better - albeit s l o w l y
Some days I do wonder if I did the right thing, I think we all have good and bad days.
Hope things are improving for you too
Take care

No I don't regret going BR but I regret what led us to it!0 -
Both my wife and I have both been BR over the last 15 years and I can honestly say that things do get better.
I don’t regret going liquidating my company, BR is there for a purpose and I don’t regret how we got there, we both had successful companies mine went BR due to several customer debt / some going BR and my wife’s business failed due to the recession, property crash. I’m now in an IVA and trying to start again = 3rd time lucky J this time, no credit, no 30 day invoices to customers, no help from the bank, no items we can’t afford and thank 'somebody' no arguments, we are healthy and we are still a family
Debt, unhappiness, feeling of no future or BR, no debt, a way forward. I don’t really care about what people think about me, my wife or my business going BR, we tried, we failed, we will try again! That’s what BR is for, similar to spent convictions, divorce, AA they are all vehicles to try again and be a better happier person.
Now off to keep my depressive thoughts kept down by rowing 10,000m, it works wanders dont you know :-)0
