Crikey, I'm debt free!

After 8 long years, my final student loan payments (the old mortgage style ones) went out last month. I was so used to the money floating out of my account that it was only on Friday that I realised I'd finally finished paying for my six years of university.:D

I know it's claimed that student loans are the cheapest finance you'll ever receive, don't affect mortgage affordability calculations, etc, etc, but the bottom line is they've delayed my ability to save seriously for a deposit until well in my early 30s. I am beyond glad to see the back of the !!!!!!s!

So stick with it chaps, I've just finished paying off university, overdraft and credit card debts worth well over £20,000. It can seem daunting, but you can always get there in the end.

That's great news - well done you and good luck saving for whatever you're wishing for.

Sorry, that was an incredibly old MSE forum account to which I'd lost both the password and the email address - I really didn't think it was still active. I am Yartek, above, and this is my proper account :)

I'm still very chuffed to have finished that payment schedule, whatever my name is...

    Thanks, all of you :)

Now I've got to save like mad for a deposit to get in debt all over again with a mortgage ;)

Thanks! I have big plans already and have set up a standing order to my savings account of the amount my loan payments used to be, so I won't be tempted to splurge every month ;)
