Hi, I think you need to think long-term about the house. You are on an interest only mortgage, so unless you have any other method of paying off the mortgage at the end of the term you're going to have to sell the house anyway when your mortgage term ends. It's unlikely that you would get another mortgage for £137,000 as you get closer to retirement without a seriously well paying job or large pension income as the term would have to be short, so you are likely stuck with your current mortgage provider on whatever your current terms are.

The decision will depend on the likelihood of returning to work and the cost of other suitable housing in the area you wish to live in.

Are either of you receiving Disabled Living Allowance?

From what you describe, you would appear to qualify.

Thanks for reply jayphe. We do plan to sell the house when we are older and by then the market should have improved. Just don't think we would be able to sell at a decent price next doors has been up for a while. We don't want to sell if can avoid it and to be honest neither of us is in a fit state to cope with organising and dealing with a sale at the moment. If the debts we have are in my hubby's name and are not secured on our house how do the people we owe money stand in how far they can go in persuing the debt i.e. will we be allowed to pay only what we can afford and will they stop all interest and charges. Thanks. If you or anyone else out there has any advice I would appreciate it. Thanks. M

You can claim Disability Living Allowance(DLA) if you have care &/or mobility needs.

Go to a CAB advisor for help filling the forms in.

You mention your car accident. Will you be entitled to any compensation?
