Moving Oversea's - What can I claim back?

Hi There

I'm a Eu citizen who has worked in the UK now for 4 and a half years. In August this year my wife and I are moving to Australia (not sure for how long), but wanted to know what I can claim back in terms of TAX and NATIONAL INSURANCE.

What am I able to claim back and what would the consequences of that be?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Income Tax
Assuming you are working and paye I would expect you will overpay your income tax. You should claim that back.

VAT
I am not certain how it applies if you are both EU citazens but I think if you are going to be outside the EU for 12 months it can be done. So if you are making any expensive purchases upto 3 months before leaving and taking it with you then look into reclaiming the VAT when you leave. If it is possible then you will need to get some extra paperwork from the retailer and not all of them do it / some charge an admin fee.
