Well my homemade Sardine fish cakes went down very well last night, the recipe I found on here and my kids loved them even though officially they do not like sardines.
I have left broccoli soup in the slow cooker today. Nett0 had an offer of two big broccoli bunches for £1, so decided to make soup.
.
Would you be able to give me the recipes for the fish cakes and the soup please? They sound like meals that would go down well in my houseMummy to 3 fabulous boys all under 4 :eek:0 -
Hi LittleBit,
I found the recipe for the fish cakes on here and modified it slightly. I will include all recipes that I recently tried and had thumbs up from my kids and partner and Westie.
Fish Cakes:
Tin of Sardines or any tinned fish could be used depending on preference
2lb potatoes boiled and mashed
4 oz breadcrumbs
2 tsp mixed herbs
4 tbsps parsley
salt and pepper
optional: worcestershire sauce
Mix ingredients together and make into small cakes, coat with four and fry. I deep fried them to make them crispy but you could quick fry and then oven bake.
Broccoli Soup:
3lb potatoes or roughly 5 large potatoes
One bunch of broccoli
1 large onion or 2 small onions chopped
salt and pepper
half pint of milk or round about.
cheddar cheese grated in soup.
Boil potatoes and onion and mash. Boil broccoli in water and when cooked add to the mash with the milk, s and p, and add the grated cheese. Cook until bubbling nicely. Serve with HM bread.
Cheese and Bean Pie:
8 sausages
6 large potatoes
1 large onion
1/4 pint of thick gravy
2 tins of beans - (Nett0 or Aldi beans are good)
Cheddar cheese
Boil the potatoes until cooked and mash. Whilst pots are cooking fry about sausages until cooked add onion mins from end. Whilst doing that open two tins of baked beans and add to a casserole or deep dish. Make up 1/4 pint of gravy very thick and add to beans. Add sausages and onions and mix. Add the mashed potato to the top and flatten down with a fork. Grate cheese onto the top.
Cook for 1 hour in the oven, 180 or gas mark 7 (i think)
Savoury Pancakes (very similar to lasagne but with pancakes rather than pasta):
Pancake mix (HM) for at least 12 pancakes
bolognaise mix (minced beef, onion, 2 tins tomatoes, tomato puree, herbs, garlic, beef stock cube, 2 tbsps plain flour etc)
Cheddar cheese for inside the pancakes and on top of them.
Tomato juice from the tinned tomatoes.
Cook your bolognaise sauce as though creating lasagne, and also make at least 12 pancakes, which can be rolled to make like cannelloni tubes and fill a lasagne or roasting dish.
Leave the pancakes to cool slightly (separate them though), then add some bolognaise onto the pancakes with some cheese, roll up and place in the dish. Do this with all pancakes. When you finished then pour some tomato juice on top and grate cheese. Bake for 30 mins. 180c.
Tastes like heaven. No leftovers from a huge amount made.

Hello Wednesday!! Half way through the week woo hoo.
Busy day again at work. But getting there slowly.
Last night I had a letter from the solicitors telling me that my solicitor will put through the ancillary relief through court. He provided documentation about it and told me that it will cost me £240. Gulp. More money from my credit card, but well worth it hopefully.
Anyone else going through a divorce atm? Or just been divorced? I have been quoted £2.5k-3.5k for my divorce, and have currently paid £1.5k atm.Halifax CC £1029/£2490, Tesco CC [STRIKE]£0/£3203[/STRIKE], Tesco loan £15431/£15808, Carloan1 £6743/£8241, Carloan2[STRIKE] £0/£3813[/STRIKE]

When I got divorced I think it cost 1.5 k all in, but it was quite a straight forward and quickie divorce. The thing that bumped the cost up most was all the solicitor's letters going backwards and forwards between me and the ex.Mummy to 3 fabulous boys all under 4 :eek:0

Happy Thursday everyone.
Tax Credits are being crazy atm. I have had double payments this month.
I was told that I was being paid half of April's this month at the beginning of March because of computers systems being changed over. But they seem to have paid me the rest today on the last day of March. Anyone else had this problem?
When budgeting each month it is annoying when the tax credits appear double for one month, it looks like I am under budget in April by £240 :S
Payday today thank god, and also divorce is in court today to get Decree Nisi. So exciting day for me...
Not a no spend day today as I need petrol in my car. I am withdrawing £500 today which will cover food for 3 weeks, petrol, childcare for one week and spending money for holidays.Halifax CC £1029/£2490, Tesco CC [STRIKE]£0/£3203[/STRIKE], Tesco loan £15431/£15808, Carloan1 £6743/£8241, Carloan2[STRIKE] £0/£3813[/STRIKE]

Managed an extra day without petrol and filled up yesterday, £30. I withdrew the extra £200 as well to make up my £500 budget for the month.
So yesterday was a spend day with petrol, car parking for work & Mothers Day presents with postage.
Cannot believe it is the weekend again. Soon it will be holiday time on the 23rd April.
I am hoping to not spend too much this weekend, but kids are away at their Dad's until Sunday morning. Nice quiet weekend with my bf.
The weather looks grey today and I need to wash my bedding. Please sun come out and keep the rain away.Halifax CC £1029/£2490, Tesco CC [STRIKE]£0/£3203[/STRIKE], Tesco loan £15431/£15808, Carloan1 £6743/£8241, Carloan2[STRIKE] £0/£3813[/STRIKE]

Well after posting that message, I had a mad weekend.
Phone call from family to say my Nan was not well (she has been bad for a while with advanced heart failure) and possibly not got long to live. So OH, kids, westie, and me went up north to visit and stay with family. OH drove so that was easier for me and also was cheaper on fuel than my car.
My Nan was brighter when we visited, mainly because of seeing us cheered her up and she is also on morphine too.
My DS (10 yrs old) though was sad when we returned home and was crying and saying that he did not want anyone in his family to die. Comforted him and spoke to him about death.
Awful times ahead. Just wished I lived closer to my family instead of being 100 miles away.Halifax CC £1029/£2490, Tesco CC [STRIKE]£0/£3203[/STRIKE], Tesco loan £15431/£15808, Carloan1 £6743/£8241, Carloan2[STRIKE] £0/£3813[/STRIKE]
