Thanks for posting earthgirl. My usual mortgage payment is £1047 but with overpayments I hope to pay the rest of it off by March. I'm also thinking maybe I could do it by february if I try really hard although my car is having problems again so this might not be possible.
I need to do the rest of my Christmas planning today. I have most of the food for dinner but no wine or dessert yet, and I also need to finish wrapping presents. I still have a couple of presents to buy/make for relatives. I'm hoping to find the time tonight to make some chilli jam to give as I'm sure they would really like it. It wouldn't be a bad thing if I had some left over for me to eatMortgage free Jan 2012~ Savings £6,029/20,000

Slight late new year update. Christmas was a success, saw family and relaxed and took some time out of worrying about OP-ing. DH bought me a kindle which I absolutely love and so far I've only spent £1.99 on books (but downloaded plenty of free ones).
No big food shops have been needed this year as my obsessive freezer and storecupboard stocking last year has left us with enough food to last about 6 monthsThe christmas turkey has so far done 7 meals and I have two portions left in the freezer and lots of stock. I don't think we will be eating that for a while though as we are a bit fed up with turkey.
Mortgage - £900 OP sent today, taking my total down to £2978 when my regular payment comes out of my account on Monday. Hopefully this now means a MF date of March!Should get £9 from topcashback soon which I can OP too.
I think now my plan for the year is to get this paid off and start filling ISAs. I would like to have £20,000 saved by the end of the year as we are TTC and it would be great to have this level of savings to help when (hopefully) our family grows. Of course then we may end up moving and getting a new mortgageMortgage free Jan 2012~ Savings £6,029/20,000

Woken up to a lovely frosty morning. DH and I are going to the cinema today as a treat and on the way I'm going into the bank to discuss clearing my balance as I'm not sure what happens at the end and would possibly like to keep the mortgage open with a small balance in case I need to borrow again in the future.Mortgage free Jan 2012

Good news, I am mortgage free!!!!!!!
I phoned the bank in the end to ask what the deal was with keeping a £1 balance and what would happen if I made the final overpayment online. It all sounded pretty straightforward so DH and I took £1500 out of each of our ISAs and we have just paid the final amount off. We even clicked the button on the mouse together
It feels good. I think I'm going to have a glass of wine now!Mortgage free Jan 2012~ Savings £6,029/20,000

Hi Viola,
That's brilliant. Many, mnah congratulations to you both. Keeping the mortgage at a pound is a decent idea (being completely mortgage free for a little while ended up costing me an extra £400 when we got the current mortgage! Best wishes in all your future plans.
Cheers,

The plan is to start saving for the next house, hopefully moving within 5 years. We want to build up £20k in savings and then hopefully get a buy to let house.
It's strange - we both thought we would immediately want to treat ourselves to something nice but now we can we can't think of anything we want!
I will post a breakdown of my new plan on here once I have decided on some timescales for each part.Mortgage free Jan 2012~ Savings £6,029/20,000
