How to cancel Credit Expert by EMAIL

Options
Contrary to popular belief it is possible to cancel that free Credt Expert trial via email.

Normally a message gets bounced back from customerservice@creditexpert.co.uk with instructions to call in.

This call is purely for retention purposes, and you will be told the only alternative is to snail mail post your cancellation in....normally people are right on the edge of their 30 day trial and will get charged if they do this, and will meekly comply.

However if you ignore this bounced back reply and repeat the email twice further confirming how many times you have written, it should get cancelled on the third go, and you should get confirmation of this emailed back. If not keep emailing til they do. Always quote your full name, the 8 digit reference number, and use the email you registered you membership to.

Alternatively, there is another method, which will work 1st time.
The new 14.99 service contains identity fraud insurance, so that means under FSA treating customers fairly guidelines there must be no barriers to cancelling this within the 14-day cooling off period. This method will only work if you have the new membership with the included scores and insurance...if you are still on the reports and paid scores service use the above method.

Simply email membership@creditexpert.co.uk and ensure you send it from your registered email address quoting your reference number within 14 days of the trial period. As long as you are explicit in the email that your primary reason for cancellation is due to insurance, they HAVE to process the cancellation there and then.

If you have paid to reactivate you will get a 6.40 refund too....though the membership wil shut down straight away so make sure you've done all you needed, got your score and printed off your report.

REMEMBER FOR THIS TO WORK IT MUST BE DONE WITHIN 14 DAYS!!

Since they take a card payment, there is a simple but tricky way to cancel your membership.

I sent an email a few days before my next payment was due (worked this out by looking at my previous payments - pretty sure there's also a payment date when you set up your card details) demanding cancellation based on the email template provided on their site (for 14 day cancellations)

The reply was to ask me to call a number, I replied the following day with another demand to cancel and quoted my name, address, dob and reference number again (as suggested above). I took the extra step of transferring my bank balance into my ISA for 24 hours which made my card payment to creditexpert to fail overnight.

The next day I received an email to say that my payment had failed, and then 20 minutes later a reply to my cancellation request to say that my account had now been cancelled as per my request.

I'm not sure if it was the repeat demand with d.o.b and reference that worked, or the fact that the card payment failed.

Either way, I'm now free from creditexpert and didn't have to call them :)

I had real trouble cancelling a couple of years ago. I did cancel by email and got a confirmation so thought it was sorted. Then, while on holiday, they tried to take the payment again. Fortunately, for an unrelated reason, my CC card had been stopped so they got no payment. They tried to pursue me for payment and all my emails were ignored. Eventually I was forced to ring again. I also sent them a copy of the confirmation of cancellation email which I had previously received. A member of their staff then told me that someone had cancelled my membership and then accidentally reinstated it! I am never going to use them again.
