I am a bit embarrassed that I have kept this to myself and I hope you can all forgive me..., BUT it doesn't mean that I will be leaving MFW.

    I can't believe you lied to us - what a cow! :p

Just kidding MCI, that's wonderful news for you :T

Money only recently came in and I have been deciding what to do. It doesn't mean for a moment that the the journey is over, just stage one completed a bit sooner than anticipated.

So, as of next weekend we will be mortgage free and then on the Stage 2 which is building up a deposit and refurb fund for a new house.

We intend to keep the house we have got now and rent it out, this will not only help with the mortgage payments, but if everything goes pear-shaped, we still have a house to go back to.

We can borrow up to £159k, but we will be looking at approx £120k plus we will need a 15% deposit for a new house - so need to save about £25k including some refurb money.

Not all this will be saved from now - we both have some savings behind us which we have agreed that £5k each will go towards the new house once its found so £15k is the savings target.

First job will be to open a Reward Saver in both our names to deposit the money into. The £225 I was going to OP this month, will now become a deposit into this account :).

In other news - grocery spends are at £81.

Charity meeting later, so DH is cooking tea - Burgers (from the freezer) with mushrooms, cheese and onions and also using part baked ciabatta from the cupboard!

  • Very well done, pleased for you.

Thanks Ed - you know I wasn't being funny with you? don't you?

The circumstances are not great, but our family friend who died in January was generous to us all and for that I am truely grateful.

Just hope that he would be proud of the decision I made about what to do with the money. :undecided

    Hi MCI,

Kind of feels wrong to say 'well done', but you know what I mean.

Since we re-mortgaged we have come into an inheritance but I don't include it in my MFW figures as I want to do it without. However it does sit in offset reducing our interest, until we agree what to do with it. DH wants a new car, I want a new kitchen, or just to leave it there to 'look' at!!

We'd also like a rental when we've finished paying off mortgage - exciting plans for you.

Enjoy the feeling of being MF

Thank you for your kind words megela - you hit the nail on the head. Its sad, but I also wanted to do the best thing with some of the money as our friend was careful with his money and its only right that I should return the compliment.

That doesn't mean, however, that I am not going to enjoy some of it - have been enjoying taking friends out for meals (my favourite thing to do!) - few more to come before the end of the year!

Its certainly going to be funny writing a cheque for that amount of money on Saturday.
