  • Thanks Hurdler

Our family friend was quite a wealthy man, though he didn't splash the cash as he was really not that sort of person. I beleive that it was money that he and his brother fell out about years ago - as you say it can bring out the worst in people.

Although I am trying to be mortgage free, I really don't bother too much about money. I just want a nice home and be able to eat nice things and be comfortable.

On the MSE front - my dividend has been confirmed and it will be paid at the end of the month - just got to decide exactly what I'm, going to do with it. First thing will be to take DH out for a slap up meal at one of our favourite restaurants!

  • Been giving some serious thought to my finances now the dividend has been confirmed and the bonus is in.

Going to keep to my philosophy of spend-save-overpay.

Don't know what I'm going to spend on yet, but there is no hurry - it can go in the savings until something comes up (maybe that wood burner we have been thinking about, or the improvements to the front garden???). Have ordered 2 new suits for work and I MIGHT treat myself to a KitchinAid (if I can find room to put it and if I decide I really need one)!

Savings will be combination long and short term - some will be allocated to my bond when it comes time to re-invest it and some for my isa, some for instant access and some for premium bonds (got to be in it to win it!).

Overpayment will be split between now and when our fixed rate ends as I don't want any penalties (it can be tucked into the instant saver in the meantime).

A lively time MCI. I hope the funeral goes/has gone OK.

Congrats on the divi. A wood burning stove sounds very appealing.

    Hi katsu

It certainly has been lively and I think there is more to come...but can't say anything yet. Funeral is on the 31st, so a couple of weeks off yet - trying to put it out of my mind for now.

Managed to get a couple of good bargains when I went shopping on Friday, reduced shower gel which I had a coupon for too and a large pack (20) of porriage sachets for less than half price which has saved a few pounds - as they say, every little helps.

Had a pretty dull weekend really as was looking after DH - he had a stomach bug - not like him to be sicky at all, but it had really knocked the stuffing out of him - it has totally mucked up the mealplan too (lol - I am only joking) - but I've managed to sort out plain (ish) meals for us for the rest of the week without having to buy anything extra.

    MCI

  • Really don't like the week before payday - nothing happening on the money front - just waiting for the BACS payment to drop in your account.

NSD yesterday. Ended up having sandwiches for tea last night and going to do the turkey steaks as a quick roast dinner tonight.

    Just humdrum stuff really...

No LP its definately not just you and doesn't it seem to just drag on!;) Though I suppose we shouldn't wish our lives away either.

Looking forward to making a decent OP for Feb and to my slap up meal (and a nice bottle of wine) with DH. :j

    Tell me about it.
No movement on the spreadsheets (until today when some eBay money hit my current account).

I get paid on Friday so I don't have to wait too long, but with my plans to run a half marathon this year (The Great North Run), I think I will have a few other distractions this year.

Sorry to hear your sad news.

I hope OH is feeling better and you treat yourselves with some of your bonus, as you deserve to enjoy it too.

    Thanks uzubairu.

OH is feeling much better now, he's just tired and has a hectic week at work - roll on the weekend.

I am definately going to treat myself, just going to take my time deciding what I want - I'm not really a material person - a nice meal out or a weekend away is more my style.

Got some half price shampoo from boots yesterday, so stocked up for now and now i'm trying to decide how I can split my monthly shop into two so I can get the £5 off voucher at Mr T's.

    One week to pay day!!!!

  • Still on with the boring Money Saving - split the shop and got my £5 voucher to cash in next week. Also got a double points voucher to use and a 40p coupon too....ooooohhhh arn't I lucky ;-)!

    Payday Thursday...

There are possibly other things happening on the finance front, but I can't really disclose them at the moment and it could take months to sort out...watch this space.

Looking forward to this weekend as we are going for our meal on Friday - must book that later.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.
