Tesco Cat 3 for 2 heads up

Hi all

Went on line at Tesco to make my once monthly cat food, litter and treats order. (I do buy other things but it's mostly for the cats and the delivery of heavy things)

WOO! 3 for 2 on most things cat. However, read the small print. 'CHEAPEST ITEM FREE' I made my order including cat tins, litter, treats, dry food. The resultant savings were all for the treats which were cheapest.

Don't think that if you buy 3 whiskas 12 packs and 3 treats that you will save more than £1.70.

So, I took off all the treats and litter and just bought more big stuff. Saved £22 and have enough tins to tide us over for a good while. Will be making another order for the other stuff v soon :)

Be canny. If you can afford to do the shopping for cats for a few months at a time, do so. Maximise the potential.

And remember, that packet of treats for 80p could offset your savings on any bigger cat purchases to the tune of over £4.

Best of luck with their fully indicated but tricky ways.

3 for 2 are always get the cheapest free. So this would also be the case on any multi-buy offer anywhere.

These offers are almost always "Cheapest Item Free" so it's common sense not to buy two expensive and one cheap item. I'm after three of the big bags of One dried food at £13.75 but so far, they've only had two of the flavour my fussy feline likes.

I know what you mean, but I haven't really encountered a 3 for 2 which includes items costing £6.68 and 80p before. Maybe I'm a bit naive when it comes to Tesco. :rotfl:

Usually I've found they apply to similar products like 12 pack of tins and large pack of biscuits. Never personally noticed it on such varying prices previously.

I went in this morning to stock up on cat litter..they had a load of slightly damaged bags at half price, which worked out the same as 2 for 1, so even better. got six bags for 78p each

With things like this I always split my shopping at the till to maximise savings. Buy and pay for 3*£5 items 1st, then 3*£4 items and so on. Worst case is I take the 1st lot to the car and come back again and again. I know this uses a bit of shoe leather but its worth it.

The people I see 'caught out' when they buy say 6 items in a 3 for 2 range and end up saving such small amounts because of uninformed buying.

And yes I will be stocking up on cat food food/treats/milk etc.

  • same here, I bought 3 of the more expensive items and then went back for the 3 cheaper ones :)
  • Many thanks for this - I ordered online for my dog and cat and just assumed it would be the same as Boots three for two, being dim again! just amended my basket - cheers.
