  • Thanks Debtfreewannabee, it seemed to go okay and I even ended up having a laugh and a joke with the interviewer so they'll either think I'm friendly and approachable or a total numpty! Either way I'll know in a couple of weeks so fingers crossed.

My week hasn't been great cash wise either. Just bought 2 bars of choc at s/market in s boo hoo self-pity defiant way and noshed the lot. Now feel sick of course! Also seem to be a bit like you Dolly and being naughty with lunch/snacks/newspapers. Still the homemade soup and biscuits sound as though you're getting back into gear so don't be too hard on yourself. Just think, a couple of months ago that expenditure wouldn't have even registered..PPI acknowledgement sounds promising as well - just keep remembering numbers game.

The whole credit/banking industry is scary now. I made an extra payment to my credit card bill on Monday and got a letter this morning offering me an extended credit limit and preferentil rate on spends as I'm such an esteemed customer. Hmmmmm, I think not!

Well keep on truckin' Dolly and enjoy your soup - yum yum

  • Thanks DFW and Ginger

mmmmmm, better days today, as had day off work and did not leave the house (so a NSD yay). Have been studying, so taking my mind off spending. HM soup and biscuits are delicious, (not together though). So prepared for rest of week with work lunches. Next week will be a bit spendy as my brother will be coming to stay for a week so we will be taking him out for some days out etc. Not really budgeted for that but will try and keep things as thrifty as possible. My brother is very tall and eats like a horse so lots of HM traditional filling meals and lots of slowcooker use I think! Might even have to make some cakes and deserts, disaster for me because I love them too!

Ginger hope all goes well with the census job thing, sounds really interesting. and v naughty on the chocolate front, but hope you enjoyed it, one of my lovely colleagues bought me in my favourite chocolates yesterday (8 of them) from her valentines choc box as she is dieting, and I ate the bloody lot (hate to admit it but at 8.30 am and all in one go) :o

Oh nearly forgot, just want to write down what MSE stuff I have done today, £3.48 in sealed pot. two surveys completed, entered about 30 competitions, still not put anything else on ebay!

Have a good evening everyone Dolly x ;)

  • Hi Dolly

I'm glad i'm not the only one who hasn't had a very MSE week :rotfl:I have stuck to my grocery challenge but everything else seems to have fallen by the wayside ;) I did list on ebay though, although no bids yet so may as well have saved my time and played with the kids :rotfl:!

Good luck with the essay, i'm so glad i've finished my degree and don't have to spend all my evenings reading 5 books at a time! I have to say though your subject sounds far more fun than mine was :p. Have a lovely day all!

Well done DFW321 on your grocery spend, it so easy for the little other spends to mount up without you noticing. Re the study thing, this will be my 9th course with the OU, mostly social science, but some history courses. My current course is really fascinating, so hoping it won't be too hard, although my tutor sounds like a bit of a demon!

Good luck on ebay, I need to get some others on there, hooked out another to massive bags of clothes and shoes and handbags!

Have a good evening and hope all is well with you.

    Hi Dolly :hello:

Just popping by, sorry your Valentines Day didn't work out as planned for you it sounded so romantic. Hope you've recovered from your hangover, I suffered all day Saturday and its definitely put me off wine for a few weeks lol.

Its so easy to fall off the MSE wagon, I need to start keeping my spending diary again.

I would have eaten all the chocolates at 8.30am as well :o

    Have a great night xx
  • Hey Choogirl, how's it going?

Yes the spendy elves just creep right on in there, without you realising. For me its about planning planning and planning. This makes me sound really dull, but unless i do that, i end up spending, spending, spending!

Re the valentines, watching the sunset thing, I will keep this in reserve for a slightly warmer drier time (it was probably a bit ambitious at this time of year!) We had a lovely night anyway, with lovely home cooked meal (steak) and lovely bottle of wine (although I could only manage half a glass following sever hangover on Monday), that'll teach me!:o

I read on your thread about the scallops, sound lovely. Might try some of those myself at the weekend.

    Have a great evening Dolly x ;)

  • Its Friday hurrah............v busy week at work, NSD today for me woop woop. But a rather spendy day on yesterday boooooo.

Still not so bad, ticking over nicely and have a lovely week off next week, will need to focus on the force next week though. My brother is coming to stay for a week, and we will need to "entertain" him for some of that time. I am going to write up a plan for each day and will be researching anything and everything that is free to do! Also meal planning plus plus, as he eats like a horse. And top it all if the above is not enough temptation, brand new Mr Ts opening on Monday near to where I live, so have about £15.00 in vouchers. So will need to be strict with my shopping list and meal plans.

It is a bit pathetic as I feel v excited about the supermarket opening (not really sure what thats all about) as I do appreciate the damage and rip offs these big companies conduct. Have been watching the peoples supermarket recently, what an absolute fantastic idea. But still have those little butterflies at the thought of a shiny new shop, I must have been very seriously negelected as a child or perhaps dropped on my head at some point. This makes me sound really strange :o

Not really made any fantastic savings or anything dramatic in terms of accruing cash for debt repayments, but not spending wildly either, so I guess all ok.

Wishing you all a fantastic weekend, just off home now to scup a bottle of vino collapso.

    Dolly x ;)

    Hi Dolly :D

Just a thought for next week, theres a website called wherecanwego.com that lists all the attractions near you.

I know what you mean about getting excited about new shops opening, I was excited today about visiting our new Lidx :rotfl:

Enjoy your wine, unfortunately I won't be joining you for a virtual glass as I'm still having flashbacks to last weeks hangover :o

    Have a great weekend xxx
  • Thanks choogirl, thats really helpful will go have a look see. will save me trawling the net for hours trying to find things or even trying to remember things to look up.

Love that you are excited about Lidl :rotfl:

It so strange, as now get excited about accruing cash, but also excited about spending to see how much i can save................this MSE lark is making me into even more of a weirdo.

Have a good weekend, hope you have something nice planned Dollyx ;)

    Hi Dolly.

An MSE weirdo - love that. Just had a cheeky wee week off work; now 7 long weeks to go 'til Easter - it's a hard life, eh?

Glad to hear you are staying on the straight and narrow - looking for freebie or inexpensive things to do next week on your hols.

In my early days of debt-freedom-ness I am actually finding it incredibly hard to splash out a little bit. Seems like the MSE ways I learned are so ingrained that parting with cold hard cash actually "hurts"!

So I gave myself a shake. All my outgoings are MSE'd to death - nothing more to be shaved there (unless I start to eat soil!). My salary will be going up a bit to reflect my overtime at least until the end of October. I already have a decent amount left over to save monthly - so time to live a little!

My children have spent the last 2 years calling me "tight", although I preferred the term "careful"! But I am beginning to think that they might be right. I'm not talking about racking up £K's of debt again or anything (never, ever again!) - but maybe a few more treats in life, for them and for me.

Who knows what the future holds, particularly in this climate - so we may as well make (a little) hay whilst (a little) sun shines.

Time to let the moths out my purse methinks (but it's so hard!).

Have a really good time with your brother.

    BiB x

Hey - just noticed you're a Stalwart and I'm a Convert! Is it based on postings then?
    DF
  • OOh I 'd never noticed the stalwart/convert thing either. I'm a convert, wonder how you get promoted to stalwart?????!

Well Dolly, I hope you are having a good time with your brother. It's absolutely freezing here, throwing down with rain. I am sitting here wrapped in 2 blankets as I don't want to put on the heating. I look most hideous/eccentric indeed, very glad ther's no-one else in!

Know what you mean about the MSE spending obsession and the spending where you enjoy what you save. Bit like making a cake for other people whilst being on a diet and enjoying the sense of smugness whilst they eat it and you don't. Madness! But good!
