Just found your diary, sounds like you've really done a lot in the last year with all the debt busting and the changes.

Sorry to be cheeky, (1st post on your thread), but PLEASE PLEASE don't get of the watch, you wear it every day, if it was something that was collecting dust, I'd say let it go, if it wasn't sentimental. But the watch would stand for such a lot, including how far you have come.

I would def look into bank charges, ppi reclaiming etc - go back the last 6 yrs, when it originally came about every account I claimed on paid some form of money back, only got scary on one when Barclaycard dug their heels in, till 2 days before the court case. My PPI on an old loan is out of the 6 yr otherwise I'd of tried.

Use the templetes as the way I see them, is what might take me 25 words to do, they say in 5.

Got to be nosey what studying are you doing, I'm studying with the OU, got Health, fitness and mgt course, half way through just start business strategy 2mor, (1st chance had), I find the studying gets addictive.

Def agree re setting the price limits, I tend to hit Boots sale usually try and wait for 75%, but this time gave in and went for 50%, got a lot of presents from there, also regifted, but always do 100% check ur not giving to the same person, sales throughout the yr, I had a little note book with who got left to get for, take that on hols, always seem to find more bargains.

This year, planning hit Vistaprint - as they offer free items, and you pay postage, once you have ordered they send you offer emails, we've used them for 4 yrs for calenders at xmas, cards, and different things, also if you go through Quidco, - they give you £2.50 back, once per month, and Topcashback, they give you £5 per month, even if you order the free items, good thing with both those cashbacks you can have more than one account.

Haven't got it to hand, but if your not offended pm you a link for free items. be 2mor.

You sound organised with presents, but I do a Christmas thread, Santas challenge, try and plan things through the yr, and theres a sister thread money neutral, where we try to make additional money by challenges, everyone is great on there. More likes a girls getogether - without the wine.

    xx

Thanks for your post, the watch I think i will keep it, just felt guilty as bought it on credit 3 years ago, and keep thinking it is an expensive luxury.

With OU, its my 6th year of study, and this year its A218 History of Medicine, so far its been absolutely fascinating, only just started, and my tutor (not met him yet) seems really scary, v old school. We shall see. Only studying for pleasure, though.

Thanks for the tips on trying to reclaim PPI charges, am going to have a good look tonight, the wine got the better of me yesterday!!

Still at work so just going to leave shortly and head for the hills, then make Thai fishcakes from my weekly menu plan for tea yum.

  • Feeling a bit c*** tonight, I have the colly wobbles, a number of unexpected bills have hit me, my son was made redundant last week and wants to retrain, I have agreed to pay towards his course fees, plus two others I was not expecting.

this has thrown sideways my plan for the month, I will need to use my savings just to remain on an even keel and there will be no overpayment this month on my loan. I am finding his really hard, as I am now very protective over my money (I know its early days, but it really matters to me and have been working hard on saving and not spending).

it just feels like just as you manage to clamber out of the hole, something comes along to drag you back down there.

Am trying to tell myself that this will happen from time to time and that If I can't make an overpayment one month this is not the end of the world. The good thing is I have been toying with the idea of using my credit card to help, but have resisted. I have not used any credit for the last two months, this is the first two months for as long as I can remember.

Just wanted to get this down, as its been eating away at me all day and causing that dreadful panicky feeling I used to have most days that something bad is going to happen.

Off to bed now, hope tomorrow will not look quite so bleak. Dolly x :(

Just remember not using the cc is a huge step in itself, I find these little blips along the way tend to make you even more determind to clear the debt.
Did you get a chance to get the ppi letters sorted, if they refund some of the ppi it could be a nice chunk paid off in one go.
Hope your feeling a little better today

  • Bless you thanks, not attempted the PPI but will be on it today. Feeling a bit more on my game today and accept the fact that this isn't the end of it all, but another challenge to overcome.

Thanks for your post so early in the morning, its just the little boost I needed today.

    Have a good day

  • Thank you thats very kind, just needed a bit of a refocus really. I am now finding it difficult to part with cash (never been in this situation before). As I am saving v hard, I don't want to fork out for anything. Theres a turn up for the books eh!

Just need to control the colly wobbles and realise this is not the same as it was before.

Have a great day Rock Cakes and hope that you are doing ok too.

  • Hi Dolly,

Your diary is great and you are doing so well! Sorry to hear about your son's redundancy, but hopefully this will be a bright new start for him on the emplotment front.

You seem to be dealing with the extra expense very well, just do your best to build it into your existing budget so you don't have to take out any further credit to cover the costs.

And get on the case of PPI and bank charges, some people on here have done very well from making these claims - if you don't try you will never know.

Good luck, and glad to see you're remaining positive.

  • Thank you for the encouragement Domino, not had the chance today so far to have a look at PPI reclaims, but off home shortly so will check it out then.

NSD 1/15 for Feb for me today, hurrah

Took a look at my bank account and my amassed savings so far (which will now all go this month boooo, only £370.00 but these are first real savings I have had as adult, so mourning their loss).

but think i can make quite a bit more on ebay this month as still have tons of really good quality stuff that I have not worn for a year or so, and am now a bit too fat to squeeze into respectably. So I am hoping I can still break even and save a bit towards an overpayment if I work at this month, but it will be really tight. Determined though no more CC spending what so ever. Just realised it has now been two months since I last used it, before that it was used every month without fail, infact I could not then survive financially without it. Just shows how budgeting and planning for spending works, as income has not increased.

Many thanks everyone and have a good evening Dolly x ;)

  • After being inspired by others such as Herewego, have decided I am going to write down some financial goals for this year, so here goes:

Earn an extra £300.00 per month to put towards debt

Bite the bullet and get my house on the market (long story of dysfunctional relationship with my ex husband who is still living there)

Speak to Ex H to discuss terms of divorce, and get it sorted!! we have been apart nearly two years and have not so far had the courage!

Save £185.00 per month towards annual expenses, Christmas, car etc etc

Look for cheaper deals for Gas, Electric, Water, insurance etc (going to do this today)

Send off letters for potential PPI reclaims (oh yeah)

Speak to other banks about possibility of shifting loan to cheaper APR (no consolidation)

I think thats enough for now, have read up on the PPI reclaims and just think I have nothing to loose, never needed it as covered with work and other insurance policy anyway, and when I had a loan with Egg some years ago I was told that the application would be looked upon much more favourabley if I took out insurance with them, naughty! I honestly thought you couldn't have a loan without it, talk about dumb dumb, but was desperate so would have taken anything.

Oh well onwards and upwards Dolly x ;)
