    Potassium!!!
"Potassium is never found free, as it reacts violently with water, which is abundant in nature"
    Taken from HERE

I remember this as being explosive from school Chemistry lessons, and have no idea where one would buy it. It sounds like an interesting recipe though:D.

I agree with you I'd leave this bit out too - the coating sounds yum though.

I wonder if that was meant to be Potassium Chloride. Would be pretty explosive chicken otherwise.

EDIT: It is. Here is a link to the recipe with the Potassium bit not cut:

    http://kfc.forumup.co.uk/about298-kfc.html

Losalt is 2/3 Potassium Chloride and 1/3 standard salt.

Not quite explosive, but quite exciting:

If you get a bit further down the alkali metal group then it's really fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNdijknRxfU&feature=related

    :D
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I don't bother marinating chicken. Mix all your spices into the flour + some celery salt in a plastic bag. Put a small amount of milk mixed with an egg in a dish, dip chicken in egg/milk, then put into bag and shake until covered in seasoned flour. You can do this twice if you want, then fry. I think the celery salt seems to make flavour very close to KFC.
I also sometimes use half wholemeal flour.

Sorry I am being really stupid, what is MSG?

You are able to discern 5 tastes - sweet, sour, acid, salty and umami (savoury). These tastes are unique in that you cant replicate them individually by mixing the other tastes together in any conceivable combination, ie you cant make something taste sweet using salt ect...

Umami was only identified early last century by a Japanese fella. He discovered that you could enhance this taste using seaweed extract as it has a high concentration of glutamic acid (as does parmasan cheese, potatoes and tomatoes). From this discovery a Japanese company started making a flavour enhancer, which is your MSG! Its made by fermenting sugar cane or other such things.

If you have any packets of crisps or pringles about have a look on the ingredients list for E621, thats your MSG.

The problem is MSG has a VERY BAD PR problem. Although it is perfectly safe to eat, many people are frightened of it. The idea that its somehow bad for you is firmly lodged into the public consciousness. But this is false, just like the idea that you should wait 30 mins after eating before you go swimming. Its been proven safe by studies all over the world, but the stigma attached to it just wont go away. Just wait and see, someone on this forum will no doubt shoot me down for suggesting its safe in this post.

If you start checking the ingredients list of things you like you'll no doubt notice E621 in some of them! And you're alright! ...aren't you? :rotfl:
