So true Katsu. Your virtual pot is looking great!

Thanks Tini - I can't wait until I can pay it over. As my work situation is precarious I'm not sure whether to OP at this stage.

I had a crash last year and my renewal quote wasn't too bad. Use Quidco and get cashback on a comparison quote (only £1.50 but every little helps, right?) when it comes through.

Well i've finally plucked up the courage to return to my MFW task. I've had such a busy year and kinda got side tracked from the MFW'ing.
The attic is now finished and DS1 is enjoying his own space now, we completed that in July. The holidays are over with so it's time to get money serious again (and hopefully stick to it this time!). Here goes...
I've decided that it is going to be 'my' challenge alone, although DH is in total agreement and supportive of OP he doesn't actually do anything towards it. I think that's why i lost the will to update the diary because i was writing it as 'we', but i'll write it from now on as 'i'. Probably doesn't make much sense, but it'll make me feel better and i won't feel guilty about just 'i' and not 'we'.
The mortgage balance as of 16th Nov was approx £100,300.00.

My aim for 2011 was £1500, which was a little amitious considering the home improvements that needed to be done. I only managed the one and only OP of £500, but i suppose better than nothing. So my aim is the same for 2012 - £1500.

Thanks Twiddy. I'm planning on staying focused in 2012 and keep on the MFW wagon this time.

DS2 and i got the tree and decs out this afternoon and started putting everything up for Christmas, it was lovely, we had Nat King Cole playing - but no Bailey's on the go (it's a bit early!) I'll save that for later :). I was holding out for a real one but i needed a stand and saw the price of real trees and decided to save the money i'd of spent and use our good old artificial tree.

It's beginning to look alot like Christmas...

I've been working on my spreadsheet for 2012, using last years to predict expenses and to budget them in. With alot of jiggling around! At the moment April is the worst month and is currently -. I wish I could just hibernate in April, its when everything goes up and the CT and Water DD start again. I will continue to work on April's budget. I've planned in £100 per month OP, but then more depending on the month and any extras that can be trown that way. I'm gonna call the mort co later to see if i can raise the monthly payment instead of waiting until i have 500 quid.

I've sorted the DS's savings accs and had them both linked to my online banking so i can see them (which disgracefully both have £5 in and have been open for ages!) I've set a bank transfer for £10 to go into each when i get paid each month. It's not much, but better than nothing.

  • Mmm, just had my first ever festive latte from *bucks, it was lovely and even more so because it was a treat from a colleague! Though i now feel like i'll have to skip lunch because i'm so full :p.

The mort co won't increase the DD amount, because it's a fixed product. Back to the old fashioned way, i've just transferred £200 to the OP virtual pot. My new aim apart from OP £1500 next year is to get the LTV below 65% in the next 18 months. I've not got a plan or even know how much i'll to pay to get the right amount yet...

Just one more present to buy in town and the rest can be bought locally, but very nearly there on the Christmas front.

How odd... I'm on a fix too but mine were happy to raise my DD (although they did try to make it sound like a bad thing that it would reduce the term :rotfl: )

I fell back on the good old spreadsheet for that... I don't know if you use locoblade's mortgage overpayment short, but I linked my figures from that to a new worksheet in my monthly sheet and used them to calculate the LTV each year, and what it would potentially be with any overpayments...
Rule 7: If you're not changing it, you're choosing it.
    MFW 2020: 1 Jan £92903.90 ~ OP £536.80/£500
    MFW 2021: 1 Jan £89281.21 ~ OP £404.62/£500
    MFW 2022: 1 Jan £85579.20 ~ OPs on hold.

Well, had a great Christmas and New Year, and didn't spend too much! Seems like a very long time ago though now.

The New Year has filled me positivity and the yearning to OP and save alot more than i did in 2011. I added £150 to the OP pot at the end of December. I switched two bank accounts yesterday so when the 200 squids comes in that will be added along with the £10 rewards per month. So my aim is to put in a least £160 per month when they are up and running.

So pleased with myself, I managed to download Locoblades spreadsheet!

After tinkering around with it for a while, I finally worked out what I need to pay between now and June 13. It's quite hard trying to predict how much spare cash I'll have next year but at least i've got an idea what i need to pay into it. I've changed my OP target to the end of my fixed term contract date. If house prices roughly stays the same in June 13 this is what i need to OP to get a half decent product next time round with 65%. I'd really like an offset account next time, but by then having put everything into getting it below 65% LTV i won't have any other savings to put in it apart from the emergency fund. i think I read somewhere that you need 16K to start an offset, could be wrong! But it is a long way off yet, and hopefully my plan is a good one for the moment.

:jYum, homemade soup for lunch i'm quite smug with the fact that it's lining up to be a NSD. It's a good job because i don't have a penny in my purse (on purpose of course)! I have food in the freezer for dinner and some drinks in already to celebrate Friday (has to be done). The online food shop is done ready to be delivered in the morning for two weeks worth or staples and my list is written to pop and get fresh produce over the weekend. By doing this i've cut my food budget for two weeks down by £50. Easy when you have the time and know how. The saving has to go towards paying for the DS's sports club for Feb half term though, would have loved to put it to the OP pot. But it means we can work and they get a good week of physical activity and not mooching around at the grandparents house.
    Looking forward to the weekend.
