I've become addicted to this forum! I've been reading everyones diaries avidly and getting in the mindset.
Well the weekend didn't go as planned. I was all geared up for going through everything to see where we could save, and to get ebay stuff sorted. Instead i was batch cooking on saturday and then spent for 5 hours yesterday revising for an ECDL exam which i completely forgotton. Though it was worth it as i aced it and got 91%.
I get paid tmoro, so i'm looking forward to taking our first as MFW!Yey!

So WABL - my mortgage is now currently £92,967.49 (don't forget that 49p!). e
At my current interest rate of of 2.99% - that is a grand total of £7.62 a day. Rather more than a cup of coffee. Even buying my lunch everyday wouldn't cost that much! You know what this means don't you?
MORE OP'S!!!!!

That's sounds like a very productive weekend to me even if it didn't follow 'the plan'Mini Challenge - Halve 2nd Mortgage by Year EndStarting: £10,000 Currently £8,142.62£3,142.62 to go!0 -
Productive day today! Got paid, so the emergency fund is complete, i'd put a smile face in here, but i've got no idea how to put them in.
This is such a nice feeling, to actually have some savings. We've never had savings, but after hard work and determination you can definately get there. I feel like we're growing up
I thought initially we weren't going to OP till Feb, but was pleasantly suprised after doing the spreadsheets. Rather than transferring £500 to a rubbish savings acc until i'd got a better one sorted - just went for it and phoned the mortgage co. Though i probably won't be able to do another one until the spring now. The savings between now and then are being ploughed into the fund for a new roof.
So between now and then, the plan is to keep expenditure to a minimum and keep an OP pot until we reach the min payment amount.
I've changed my GC challenge amount for February to £320. I thought it was a five week month, but there's only 4 weekends for the weekly shop. So that's £80 week, i'm sure i can do it, as before anything left over I'm going to put in a separate pot for the next OP. Likewise to boost the OP pot i'm going to get ebaying. Joined onepoll tonight, that totals £3 at the moment but theres no more surveys on their to do. I'm new to this, but i presume there will be some new ones tmoro.
Looking forward to the challenge!

Hi Tiniker, good luck with your journey. A good start already - long may it continue!

I hope you realise that there as a few savings accounts which offer a better net return than your mortgage? To be truly MSE you should consider saving in them before OPing your mortgage. However, I would note that the difference in return is quite marginal.
Just FYI.:money:In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -
Thanks Jonbvn.
Thats not my rate - wish it was! Mine's 4.99%.
Though it is on my to do to sort a savings acc, as i will need very soon.

Quick update. Received the confirmation letter from the mort co today. They'd reduced my monthly payments because of the OP , they said that the term can only be reduced by min of 3 months and if the OP doesn't reach that then they reduce payments instead. So in the end I upped the monthly payment from £653.80 to £660.47 so it reduced the term instead of the payments. I quite like the monthly payment being a rounder figure:)
The term has now reduced by 6 months from 21/4 to 20/10, which i pleased with.
Must remember before i OP next time to talk about the term and whether the OP will be enough to just reduce the term. I don't want to commit to increasing the the monthly payments everytime. There must be a way of working how much it will be, but i have no idea.
I've joined OnePoll, but i don't think I am very interesting person, because they don't seem to send me many surveys - at the rate i'm going it will probably take me a year to get to £40!
I'm aiming to list a few bits on ebay 2moro on my lunch, the darn laptop won't upload any of my pics.
Right must get back to painting my nails and watching SinC2! - OH is watching it avidly without me - so funny! :rotfl:
Oh forgot - new balance is £ 102,616.91 - yey.

Not been on for a while, so I've just caught up on the diaries to give me inspiration.
I didn't do too well on the grocery front this week, i spent £101.04:eek: which was a combo of Lidl, MnS and Aldi. So my Feb grocery challenge is not off to a flying start! I think (hoping) this week will be a lot lower, with more planning and will power. The freezer is full, got dry goods, just need fresh stuff at the w/end - started my list already.
Survey front is going well though,:T have got into Toluna they seem to have surveys all the time. Onepoll only seem to give me one or two every few days, but i will keep persisting. It's funny i seem to find time to do surveys but not the cleaning!
I was scrubbing the bathroom yesterday which admitidly was overdue, dreaming about how much i would love to have a cleaner... then i woke up! Snapped myself out of it - noooo how can i pay out money for a cleaner, when we're supposed to be saving/OP. And we certainly don't earn enough to have one. It's so hard to juggle work, kids, hobbies, cooking good food, cleaning etc etc.... i think the thought of having one is a lot better than having one and than handing over the cash.
On the MSE trying to keep everything in the week to a min spend, like not keeping cash in my purse - that's helping alot.
OH has some money in his account thats earmarked for the new roof/DS bedroom, i've been asking him to call Santander to set up his ISA to put in until we need it - hmmm has he done it yet - no. I've given him a deadline of the end of the week. We'll see...
