North East Wedding Venues

Hi Peeps

Looking to pick peoples brains on Wedding venues in the North East, mainly Newcastle but can be within 1 hours drive max. Looking a February next year.

Plan is to find somewhere nice where we can all stay over, have the ceronmony and the wedding breakfast.:D

I was hoping for somewhere with a spa for a girlie session the day before but am flexible! :p

I live down south now so am trying to make arrangements from afar. I have a few venues I found from the next but you cant beat local knowledge

Many thanks in advance

Hi Sharpee, I live in the South too, but got married at Ellingham Hall in Northumberland. It's just north of Alnwick. I thoroughly recommend it, especially as it is not a hotel, other than the wedding breakfast itself you can sort out your own food and drink ( will filled up a car in Calais and drove it up there, saved a fortune!) The numbers it can accomodate are varied too, and the outdoor hot tub is lovely!

We're getting married at Matfen Hall next year, which has a spa and a 'go ape' (although i've been banned from it until after the wedding - i'm accident prone!! :rotfl:)

We also short listed Close House Hotel.

it's not Newcastle but it's less than an half an hour away ... Seaham Hall http://www.seaham-hall.co.uk/weddings.asp

I got married there and it is absolutely amazing. I spent the day before having treatments in the Serenity Spa which is next door but accessible via an underground walkway and then had the wedding there the following day. There are 18 suites which are just gorgeous and then there are some regular rooms. The service and attention to detail was amazing :)

    Happy planning x

  • Hi Sharpee. Hope you don't mind me jumping on your post but I'm in a similar position to you.

We're trying to find a venue in the North East and I live down south.

OH is from Australia and so we have a lot of aussie guests coming. So we'd like a venue which has a bit of history, but we don't want to be dictated to on what we can and can't have. Everywhere I have come across is so expensive and requires you to have the wedding breakfast and cater for your guests in the evening with a buffet. They even dictate that you have to use their DJ!

If anyone knows of a venue around the Durham area which has character but is a bit more relaxed your help will be greatly appreciated.

gk195 - Thanks for that I hadn't heard of Matfrn Hall it looks gorgeous

Daisygogo - i looked at Seaham it looks fab and is one of the two venues I fancy. I going back up north next month so am going to arrange to visit and have a look.
I really want somewhere nice with wow factor. We're only having a small wedding but don't mind spending a bit to make it memorable

    Thanks for everyones recommendations

doonjoneslondon - have you looked at Beamish Hall?

My Mum & Step dad got married there 3 years ago and it was really lovely, food was fantastic and staff very helpful.

The Great Hall has an amazing staircase, great for the wow factor, and the added bonus of £250 when i fall flat on my !!!!!!!:rotfl: You basically get the whole east wing for the wedding, so it's just your wedding party and no other random hotel guest walking through. I love it, as it looks quite churchy without being a church. I love the architecture but not religious in any way. Although there is also a church in the grounds also, if you were after a church wedding. It took my breath away when i walked in there so knew that was the one for us!!

Seaham Hall is beautiful, I couldn't fault anything about the service they provided us. We only had a very small wedding on a Sunday but it was absolutely perfect. We were married in the Byron Room where the poet wed and it was just perfect but they do have a variety of rooms to suit. They do offer packages etc but they tailored everything to suit our needs, I didn't want a big formal do and opted for an afternoon tea and it was just fab, the attention to detail was amazing :) If you opted for Seaham Hall I can recommend an amazing florist and photographer who are both very familiar with Seaham Hall. I loved the venue and we got some amazing photos inside and out as well as in the underground walkway to the Spa next door.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Enjoy planning your big day xx
