Grinding Cinnamon

I was after some ground cinnamon yesterday but the shop didn't have any, so I ended up buying cinnamon sticks - thinking that you could probably just rub it between your fingers to convert it to a powder.
Seems that it's not as easy as that! Are there any clever ways of 'grinding' it without any special equipment?
Thanks

havent tried this myself so not sure but....what about bashing it/grinding it/rolling over it with a rolling pin/wooden kitchen mallett while the cinnamon is sealed in a plastic sandwich bag ?0

oh dear, best not bother then!! :rotfl:
oh well... here's another idea for cinnamon sticks left whole then: (ignore if you already know this , i'm sure you do)
store in a sealed jar of sugar, infuses into the sugar, very nice for coffee or sprinkling over apple recipes whatever.0 -

Thanks. No, I didn't know that - I'd never used cinnamon sticks before which accounts for my foolish assumption that they would easily crumble!Stompa0 -
For the sticks don't you just bung them in whole and then scoop them out when you've finished cooking whatever it is you're cooking?
I love cinnamon and was reading about the many health benefits only this morning!0 -
What can I do with my 'lower branch' cinnamon bark then? Can I grind that? I was stripping this poor tree, and have a jar full of bark and no idea what to do with it. Apart from the occasional inhalation! Yum.:wall:0
