I refuse to get excited about any of this until someone can give a rational definition of "Child Poverty". It is, in fact, an emotive expression devloped by our "Nanny State" which makes some sort of assumptions about chidren being cared for entirely commensurate with earnings of the parent(s).0

In English please.........Retail is the only therapy that works0 -
This is what happens when a government uses mass immigration to control inflation. The figures suggest that something is going wrong for people in this group – it is disappointing. It demonstrates that work alone is not always a route out of poverty,’ he said.0

For real child poverty see India Pakistan Bangladesh Etc Etc Etc Etc.
Few families in this country live in anything near poverty and if they do its of their own making.
I know all about poverty in India, I watched Slumdog Millionaire.
Here's the thing, I dont live in Bangladesh or pay my taxes there.
If I could change the world, trust me I would.
I do, however, expect the money I hand over to whatever government is in power to change things here.
I expect every child in this country to have food on her table, shoes on her feet and a cleanish, warmish house. If that means I (and you) have to support her ne'er-do-well parents so be it.
I am f***u**ck**ed if I will allow any child to live by your definition of poverty if I can help it.
Child poverty amongst the lazy barstards is falling?
I can only hope.......Retail is the only therapy that works0 -
Until the government definition of poverty changes I don't care, right now it is to have less than the average, so if your TV is 26" you are living in poverty...Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017
Quit day job to run 3 businesses 08/02/2017
Started third business 25/06/2016
Son born 13/09/2015
Started a second business 03/08/2013
Officially the owner of my own business since 13/01/20120 -

Child poverty AIUI in this country is defined as a child living in a household that earns less than x% of the average household income (can't remember what x is).
Child poverty in the UK, apart from in a relatively few circumstances, is a measure of distribution of income not of hardship.0 -
if these kids don't want to live in poverty, they should get up a few more chimneys. slackers.0

This isn't my definition of poverty, I was comparing poverty in this country (Little Johhny has no tv) With third world countries (Abdul hasn't eaten for a week).
Here's the thing. How many children in the UK wont eat this week?
Not many and if they haven't its because their !!!!less parents spanked the money on drugs or booze.
The p.c brigade might not like this but with the benefits system in UK no child need go hungry or live on the streets end of.
If you gave more to these so called parents the children still wouldn't benefit from it.The only chance they have would be if you removed them into care and offed the parents.0 -
Proof that work just doesn't pay: Child poverty among unemployed families is falling ... but INCREASING in working homes
Do any of you know any families who you think are living this real life?
And whats the best way to deal with this? up the min wage? cut benafits for non working households?
There are non working household local to me. They seem to have all the moden TV and computer/game gear. They were all name brand clothes.
Now its not like that in our house. we look after the money we have and dont waste it. But i dont feel that my family we might not have all the gear and all the name brand clothes but we live within our means and we own our own home.
I was going to give a seriuos reply to this but given the tone of the other replies this is as good as it'll get:
At the beggining of 2010 I was laid off for a short period, my financial position at that time was crap and being laid off made it worse. Upon my return to work I was on limited overtime which meant we were slowly catching up with the situation. A few short weeks later I was put onto basic hours only.
This meant every week I was loosing money working. My wife and I cancelled everything that could be cancelled and reduced everything that couldn't. We were still losing money.
In july we had difficult decisions to make (fuel in the tank for work or food on the table). After reading for hours daily for a couple of weeks a decision was made. I had to give up work while my wife would continue in her part time role outwith college/uni.
It took me 2 months to finally cave in to the idea that IM BETTER OFF NOT WORKING. September I gave my notice to a disheartened and upset supervisor and manager.
I remain in limited contact with my former collegues and everyone finds it hard to believe my family is £60 a week better off.
I've worked since leaving school and was brought up knowing that if you had a job you were better off. (i'm feeling sick writing this and still can't believe it).
